IT'S ME AGAIN! I got the wrong mem chip (EEC instead of the other one) my error I should have used a magnifying glass to reread the chip numbers. Is the EEC chip a good one or does it run slower? ALSO, I have been having some problems for a while now when it comes to the documents that I have typed-up. They start out normal but print out all messed-up. and after a few days the original that I typed-up is all out of style ie: sentences develope spaces where they are not ment to be, pharagraphs all out of whack, ect. What would be the cause of this problem? last night the settings for my color on the screen changed from what it was to 16 and I don't know why. I have done several virus scans and found nothing. I have kept this thing defragmented daily. what can I do about these problems (outside of buying a new computer which I can't do right now? thanks kevinsw

Lets chop you message into a few chunks. The wrong stick of memory is one question. It might be bad, it might be good, it might be stuffed into a bad slot (because the slot is bad on the mobo) it might not be seated in all the way, it might be defective stick, and the list goes on.
Chunk two: Your documents were good before and now they are not? Did you just come back from a reformat? Did you reinstall your word processing software, are you using a new software? Sounds like it might be a printer driver in need of updating or your word processing software needs an update (did mine on Friday).
Chunk three: Colors just don’t change out of the blue. It sounds like you did something to your system (yet to be determined) and this is causing all your problems. Rather than try to fix all the problems…. And then figure out what happened or changed, why don’t you give us some more information about what happened between when your computer was working and when it started to act up.

Well I can give you some more info. I have a Dell optiplex GXa, it had a 64MB stick that I believe was non-par. And I went to crucial and bought a 128MB stick that was EEC. I can send this stick back and get a non-par stick so I can put my old stick 64MB in aswell and have 192MB rather than just 128MB or 64MB. this was a comment to all who answered a earlier thread about mem. that I placed. the stick as far as I know is working ok and is what I am using right now. ;) the stick is the only change that has been done inside the computer, My printer works fine it is just that when I type-up a letter and go to the print preview I dosn't show-up the same as what I typed. and when I save the document to a file when I go back to it a few days later it is all out of whack like the print preview was when I typed it up to begin with. this started perhaps a moth before I started tweeking, (just before I found this site) ;) I know that I can go to the Dell site and update various drivers and such but I am new to tweeking things and am unsure what it is that needs to be updated, and how to find-out what I have already so the update is compatable. thanks kevinsw ps I am running win98se:p asfor a word processer, I believe that all that is on this computer is my (word-pad and note-pad) so I am at a loss as to any word processer. please remember that I am a rookie at all this stuff. thanks again kevinsw:2cool:

Sounds like some sort of software issue (not memory). You might post your questions over on the software board. Lots of smart people over there. Just a bunch of tweakers here.
Good luck!
