I have tried numerous RWIN setting in the RcvWindow, but am still not able to maximse MSS. I am running on a @home network, and have used the reg. tweaks listed on the site, and have also diasbled the proxy setting. Here are my reading for TCP/Analyzer.

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1448, which is less than MSS because of Timestamps, or other TCP/IP options used.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 17520
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 17520
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 700.8 kbps (87.6 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 280.32 kbps (35.04 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 54 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = ON
Note: Timestamps add 12 bytes to the TCP header of each packet, reducing the space available for useful data.

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

I must admit that while I am not new to computers in the least, TCP/IP is not my strong forte at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.;) ;)

Your registry is at default, do this:

Click on help page below in signature and follow directions exactly, please leave your OS and system specs if you have not done so.Also if you have Cablenuts adjuster installed I need to know that. On 2nd page of help page at bottom are some Tips and how to do speed test. Thank you and good luck.

Lobo, here are my system specs.
k6-2/400
128mb
32mb viper
Win98SE

Have installed CableNut software. Have installed the Vtcp.386 patch. Here are the new results from the SpeedTest . Let me know what you think.

TCP options string = 020405b40103030101010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 128480
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 1 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 5139.2 kbps (642.4 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2055.68 kbps (256.96 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 38 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

From what I gather, I would think that I am probably tweaked now. Let me know if you agree. Appreciate your help and recommendations.

Yes all looks OK:)

How do do speed test
1. The best time is early in the morning (3 AM - 6 AM)
2. Make sure defrag has been run so no files are fragmented
3. Delete Temp internet files, not while testing, but after each test. IE browser, click tools, internet options, click on delete files and no this will not harm system, just get rid of temp files
4. Go to a fast server such as www.happypuppy.com and click on 10 demos, select a LARGE file to download (not all of it , just most of it, before you click cancel) this will show you how fast you are downloading, it's not going to be quick except except early in morning when not many people on net. I recommend you go to www.analogX.com and download Net State live, run this while downloading as it will give you avg of your download speed, really all you need on Net Stat is incoming data, incoming totals and Local machine, right click on Net Stat anywhere, stactics and check these 3 items, the rest need not be checked unless you want them, all you care about is average.
Put system defrag in scheduled tasks to run everyday.
5. Probably the most important, nothing can be running during test, no firewalls, no virus stuff, no ICQ, no AIM (some of you may have to go into BIOS to disable virus scanner, nothing running except Net Stat live
Scheduled tasks will run disk defrag, 98 & SE in Taskbar, WIN ME in control panel
The people who want speed surfing or doing whatever must close all other programs.
(NOTE: at present time www.AOL.com seems to be fastest download site, at bottom download aol 6.0)
Or if you wish you may go to www.testmyspeed.com and do one of the online tests, these vary to much for me but you may like them.

Hey Lobo, get those directions posted on the top of every forum. It could solve a lot of problems :D...

Lobo use to post all the info shown above. Several express concerns that he should create links at the bottom of his signature so it would be easier for the new people. He did just that (note the real cool links at the bottom of his signature) but a little open posting every now and then opens the door to others clicking on the links.

Placing the instructions at the top of the page (a sticky) is a good idea but as time has shown, not everyone reads those sticky’s. There is no one “good” answer so a number of approaches are taken to get information out to those needing tweaking information.

Usually the stickys don't catch people's attention because they look like ordinary threads. I'm talking links which are bold, italic and a bit bigger than normal thread links.

Might also try creating a newbie forum. I have nothing against newbies it's just that important posts get missed, and newbie posts, which are usually fixed with a reg tweak, get equal treatment as problems which can't be solved with reg tweaking.
