well im really new to this but i installed some tweaks and didnt back up my registory and now i dont know the orginal values of when my cable used to be fast, so i was wondering if any of you could tell me the values of yours so i could go back in and redo it or if you know another way around this and my computer stats are
windows me
256 ram
20gb hard drive 5400

This patch will resore your reg settings.
SG default patch (http://www.speedguide.net/files/sguide_default_9x.zip)
Hope that helps.

well i installed that patch but im still having problems whenever i download something its goes at less than 100k/b a second and when i try to play my online games like counter-strike when i connect to servers it will actually never connect and go in the game it just keeps counting down until it says could not connect any ideas about that?
Post your TCP/IP results, get em here.....
TCP/IP Analyzer (http://forums.speedguide.net:8117/)
Those numbers will help the real tweakers give you ideas. I have little to no clue about ME tho. ME made me so mad, I went back to 98.

ok heres what i got from that thing
TCP options string = 020405b401010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 17520
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 17520
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 700.8 kbps (87.6 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 280.32 kbps (35.04 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 111 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000
Okay, I'm only going from what works for me. Download and install this patch.....
Win 98 $ ME speed patch (http://www.speedguide.net/files/sguide_tweak_98_pppoe.zip)
This singular patch has made my cable really zip. My UT pings really zoom up and down, usually gettin real bad around 11:00pm eastern time. Lobo mentions that to really see what you are capable of, ya need to test speeds at 3:00 am, prolly Cali time.
Keep this thread bumped and someone who knows ME will be along to help ya out more. I know nothing of proxies, thats always one of Doc's first questions, dunno what in the heck it does for ya tho.
You using a nic or usb?
What kind of speeds were you acustomed to befoe you tweaked?
Whats you u/l and d/l cap?
Got a router or a switch?
Just post anything that might relate to your situation.

well i try to answer what i know i think i use nic and before i tweaked for download i usually got 300 to 400k/b a second and upload im not real sure but i think around 100 to 200k/b a second i dont know my u/l or d/l cap and i dont have a router so i probably have a switch which i dont know what that is so thats probably the best i can do to explain it

o and that last tweak you told me to download didnt help either and it kinda made it go slower than before

RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Hey Brembo.... How about making that a 1 to allow scaling?
A RWIN of 522680 would be nice too:)
I'm outta my league here, but the scaling sounds good. Dunno why you would be slow ajahosafag. Keep this bumped, someone will help. Ya got Doc lookin at it, thats good, he can help too.

o i did a dsl report test and i got 341{down} and 165{up} which i dont know if that is good or bad
The patch is easy. Just unzip it. Then right click the patch, you should see a "merge" or "install". Do that, reboot and see what yer doin on the net.

well this is way beyond me and nothing seems to be working so hopefully one of you will figure out whats wrong or i have to call my cable company might be something with them but i dont think it is o and one last thing when you guys were telling me to change those rwin values earlier i didnt know how or what to exactly do so if you could tell me in steps i would understand that would be great and thanks for all your help
Okay, I just realized that you might not have browsed the whole SG tweak section. Its a whole bunch of links on the right side of the main page. This one in particular...Reg Tweaks, manual tweaks. (http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/cable_registry.shtml)
Best bet in this situation, is to read up. Get a feel for what is going on. I'm fairly confident with my machine, but prolly not knowledgable enough to trouble shoot well on others. Keep playing aound and you will get the hang of it.
You have got me confused with all this, do this please:
Click on help page below in signature and follow directions exactly, please leave your OS and system specs if you have not done so.Also if you have Cablenuts adjuster installed I need to know that. On 2nd page of help page at bottom are some Tips and how to do speed test. Thank you and good luck.

well i believe you and also i was wondering if you knew when they would start to get the speed back like usual and also my friend next door to me has @home and i noticed his has been slowing down to but he can still play counter-strike and anything else like that but i cant becuz it seems to time out when i try or something like that can that be solved or do i have to wait for @home to start speeding up again?

o and here is another tweak test i did
TCP options string = 020405b40103030201010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 47 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000
Looks good. RWIN might be a touch high, you should be gettin good speeds.
ajahosafag
08-05-01, 10:00 PM
what rwin do you think i should go with?
and if you think that i should be having good speeds than maybe it isnt my settings and it is @home all along do any of you know when they will be back up and running like they were before?
Well, lookin at your settings, they are identical to mine. Go ahead and try that for awhile. Call @home and see if they are having problems.
ajahosafag
08-06-01, 12:06 AM
i was also wondering if these speeds sound right for @home
300-450 download
150-200 upload
in k/b a second
@home is having speed problems right now, type code red worm in search box or call them:)
