Hola Folks,

Just a quick question about my @home cable service.

I share an @home connection with my roommate... He decides to set up a server and install ICS (we had 2 IP's and a hub) Well I really could care less about the setup. But now my connection really seems to be slowed down a lot!

We have a main server and his client and mine... But on the main server he is running IIS (I've seen the log files, they are filled with IPs downloading his girlfriends stupid amat. porn and video) and sharing files on Kazza. Please let me know if this is killing my bandwidth when I surf the web and play Q2. my ping sucks lately and it takes forever to load a simple webpage, because if it is the server (its mine anyway) is getting disconnected and the original config. is going back up.

He says that is probably affecting quake because of sending and receiving of the packets... however loading of regular pages shouldn't be affect since I am downloading content from another server.

Is this a coincidence that my cable experience is rivaling a 56k modem?

Please, any advice is appreciated.

Joe

hmm IF I rembeber right Running A SERVER is a violation of the
terms of service ? And if caught could have your connection cut off

Cable with it's uploads capped is not ideal for serving.
but that's where your issues are

two ips even capped in the cable world there worth is 1500 k a pop download 1500 X 2 = 3000 k if he has a slow baud rate
sharing 300o k i bet a thief about ....lol:rotfl:

since you got cable it means you gotta network card run your ip straight to your card off the cable modem an tell your roommate to sponge somewhere else :-):2cool:

Pumping the reverse slows down the downstream and it does seem to me that the roommate is hurting your connection.
