I've installed the vtcp.386 update for my W98SE. However, changing RWIN greater than 65k and/or setting TCP1323OPTS (RWIN Scaling) = 1 are ignored.
I'm running an old Pentium 233/MMX with 64 MB Ram and Cable Modem.
Thanks in advance.

Please click in my signature where it says Test your tweak here, then:
At top where it says edit click and select, Select all,
Then go back to same edit button at top, click and select copy.
Come back to Speedguide, same thread you were on, in post reply box, with cursor blinking at begining of box go to top, edit, click, select paste, click, this will put information in box. Please X out your IP address, Thank you.:)

Anytime you change anything in registry, you must REBOOT right after or it do not work, so if you set Tcp132Opts to 1, did you REBOOT:)

Yes, I did reboot after setting the value. Note that I'm using regedit when I make the changes.

Here are my current settings in the registry:

DefaultRcvWindow "64240"
Tcp1323Opts "1"

If I change the RCVW any higher it tests out at 65535.

Here's the Analyzer results:

TCP options string = 020405b40103030001010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 64240
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1027.84 kbps (128.48 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Click on help page below in signature and follow directions exactly, please leave your OS and system specs if you have not done so.Also if you have Cablenuts adjuster installed I need to know that. On 2nd page of help page at bottom are some Tips and how to do speed test. Thank you and good luck.:) or install 386th again, wont hurt it

Scaling is the problem that I'm asking for help with, I can't get it to turn on.

I've seen some talk about a DWORD versus string value. How do I tell the difference?

Set RWIN to 259960, reboot, retest repost:)

Do you have Cablenuts adjuster installed:D :D :D

Lobo is very goog for tweaking. Download and install CableNut as asked by Lobo. With CableNut there is an Adjuster that give you an easy access to your registry to change many settings. Forgot DWORD and string value, with CableNut Adjuster it is much easy and fast access to your registry.

Please understand, I wasn't trying to be condesending to Lobo. My apologies if that's how I came off.

I loaded cablenuts and made the changes and rebooted. Cablenuts managed to do what I spend the last couple of days trying to do, it turned on the RWIN Scaling the first time.

Lobo, thank you for assisting me. I apologize for any ill feelings my email may have caused. Here are my new tweek test results, over 200% improvement in through-put.

Now that you've got it fixed the way you like it.... hang around. We can always use another hand.
