I have a crossover cable networking my home computer and my notebook. I would like to be able to share the internet connection. I was told I could do that with crossover, so what do I do? A small problem is I have cable with @Home and in order in get online with the cable is the computer has to have a specific name. Therefore, both computers would have to have the same name to get online....and as everyone knows, each computer needs a unique name.

Any suggestions? If your suggestion is Microsoft Internet connection sharing, how do I do that? The home computer has Win 98se and the notebook has Win Me.

Thanks!

There's 2 ways to go here

First: 98se has a built in util called Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) You can configure it to allow your laptop to access the net.

Second: You can download a free proxy like
http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/proxy.htm
It is easy to install and configure. There is a good .txt file with it that will walk you throught the setup.

If you still are haveing trouble with the setup post again and i'll walk you throught it.

Good luck.

Actually ICS installation is simple...if you have a network running.

It is not installed by default with win98se (only with se and later).

So START...SETTINGS...CONTROL PANEL...ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS...WINDOWS SETUP

INTERNET TOOLS (look at details) first one on list is INTERNET CONNECTION SHARING, mark the box and hit OK.

It is wizards from there,

Note: (home) is your network
(shared) is your DSL/Cable Modem/Satellite modem/dial up modem.

Thanks for the help. I actually set-up the proxy server and things have been going great. I'm going to try to ICS just because I have my website on the computer the is behind the proxy and I found out I can't publish from behind it.
