View Full Version : ftp Problems
Don't know why but now i can't get my ftp server to work (ex. serv-u,warftp,etc). It was working great until i hooked up the router to share my printer and internet. Now people can't access my ftp, also having some problems with icq. I can't send and recieve.
I 've searched the bored and people posted saying to forward the ports and disabling the DHTP thing but how do i do that. I new to this so i don't know exactly what to do. Could someone post specific instructions on how to do this? thanx in return.
Whoever answers your question will need more info: Type OS. Type router. Type firewall, if any, etc...
sorry about that. i run a windows 98 and itz hooked up to a d-link 704. no idea what kind of firewall is built in it.
I have a Dlink-701 router but i think it's the same with 704 except that 704 had 4 ports.
let say that they both had the same setting:
DISABLE DHCP
login your router (in run command type "telnet 192.168.0.1 333 then type in your password")
type SET (this is where you setup your internet connection such as IP, DNS server, GATEway, SUBNET,....
one question in there asked you if you want the router to distribute IP, that's mean if you want the router to assige IP address to all the computer on network. of course, NO because the server computer need static IP for the router to do PORT FORWARDing.
Now that DHCP turned OFF, you have to manually go into each computer on network and hardcode in their IP(192.168.0.2 and so on), GATEWAY (192.168.0.1), SUBNET ( 255.255.255.0 defaulted in router, REMEMBER this one is local and different with the global), DNS servers (there should be 2)
TO PORT FORWARD
while logged in router
type VSERV ( something like that, i can't remember, or you just type ? and enter this should list all the command for router)
in there: 1 for display, 2 for add, 3 for delete, and 0 for exit out of VSERV
type 2 and add
port: 21
IP of server: this is IP of computer running ftp server
and you want TCP
this is all, your FTP server should work if you do it right, still confuse, IM me.
About your ICQ, you need to open some PORT that ICQ use NOT port forwarding
there is a commmand in your router: FILTER this is where you open and close PORTs on your router
but you need to find out what ICQ or other software using. I got that link at home where it show all the software and game that use specific port or you can go in yahoo and search for that page. Keyword "Router port open"
good luck
