I have been looking everywhere for this info, when they came to install my @home service they changed my computer name and made it join the @home workgroup on my workstation. I however have a win2k server set up as my primary domian and can not figure out a way (if there is) to use my win2k server as the machine that accesses the net, I will be using winroute for sharing. I've used that setup on different cables and dsl systems with no trouble, but seeing they want the computername and workgroup set up as @home's I've run into trouble... hope there is help. Thanks in advance

Hey Sin...

well Im not for sure what they did to your machine. I have a webserver running (sshh) on Cox's @home service. I use the name they gave me and it's also using the @home workgroup.... As for using winroute...why are you using it exactly? For sharing files between this and client machines? I don't use winroute much so I don't know if that is the problem in this case and since you said you've used it before I seriously doubt it....It makes me wonder what else was played with while the @home monkey was there...

good luck man

I was wanting to use my win2k server as a primary domain on my lan with the cable connection and have my workstation login to the domain. My server has 2 nicks in it... but from what I understand I'd have to name the server the name @home gave me and have it join "their" workgroup instead of assigning my server with my local domain. Maybe I'm missing something... but this is the first time I've run accross service that has you use their specific computer name and workgroup. In all my other cases I'd setup dhcp on my second nick and have winroute deal with getting the other workstaions on the net and forwarding ports... I guess I just dont get the name and workgroup part =\

yeah..@home uses their name...if your PC doesn't use the name they assigned you..you're going nowwhere ;(

my webserver uses their name and it must be set to workgroup.. i haven't been able to work around it...still works great i just can't use it to authenticate other users

Ahhh thanks. I'll be on the lookout for workarounds, if I find one I'll post here. =)

You could get a router. I have a smiliar setup and I let the router handle the name/workgroup combo so that the other machines can be named as you please.

Have fun,
