How do i get these 2 computers setup to use the cable modem connection.

Roadrunner says just network them and pay for the extra IP.

This is for my Mom and she does not want a router. She is paying for 2 IPs

What is the best way to set this up?

Hey man..

first save your mom some money and have her cancel the other IP. Roadrunner said to purchase another IP so they can suck more money from you.

Now..you need at least Windows 98SE or newer OS. If you don't have, you'll have to get a router or keep the other IP. (email me for details)

Then have your PC off, install a 2nd NIC. Mark this one as LAN with a marker for future reference. The orignial NIC mark it as Modem...that way there is no doubt which is which..

Once windows sees the other NIC and installs it, set it's properties to have the IP of 192.168.0.1. Then make sure the modem NIC is set to obtain IP automatically. Connect your LAN modem to a hub either the uplink port or any...they'll all work. Name this computer whatever Roadrunner named it..it must have this name to be recognized by their network.

Name your client PC whatever you want and it's NIC's properties to obtain an IP automatically.

Your ready to go reboot them both and go.

Why can't you cancel the other IP...your not required to have it....they will never know you have the other PC connected (or care really) if your running ICS...

As for the 2 IPs and a hub I don't know....Ive never done it...but unless you just realy really want 2 you don't need both
