a few questions and/or remarks:
1/ is this the WAP11 u are using?
2/ 20 feet away, but in the same room or with walls in between?
3/ stay at least 1m away from microwave ovens
4/ are any such other systems in use in area close to you that you know of?
5/ are the antennas tightly fixed?
6/ can you check what speed you actually obtain?
7/ In the settings you can try changing to another channel
(both in access point and client) and see if this gives a better result
8/ check in the settings if both antennas are used for reception and transmission

If these 2.4GHz phones use the same modulation technique being
DSSS (Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum) it can be a problem
only if they work on a channel close to the one of your access point. The minimum channel spreading between two adjacent DSSS systems should be 5 or 6 . E.g. the phones work on channel 1 then your system should work on channel 6 or above. The bigger the channel spreading the better.
