Got an AMD k6-2 500 Mhz, an IWILL XA100 motherboard (ALI chipset), 256MB RAM, a 2GB hard disk, and a Creative Graphics Blaster RIVA TNT (16MB).
I've tried four or five times to install WIN2k. The installation process goes smoothly, but on reinitiating the system hags, every time. I am able o see the W2k splash screen, and the small bar, downside, charging, then the screen goes black.
Every component has been tested and are ok.
Any idea?

Thanks

I can think of two things off hand:

1. When rebooting the computer accesses the BIOS to quickly configure the computer's devices to start running. If the computer is hanging right on the reboot then maybe you are having BIOS trouble.

--> If you are wondering why it would not do this on a plain boot (not restart) it is because you are most likely going through a different kind of reboot that Win2k is altering.

I would recommend clearing the BIOS by either removing the BIOS battery on your motherboard for a couple of minutes or (if applicable) switch the clear BIOS jumper on your motherboard. (See motherboard documentation)

2. The computer is running out of hard disk space on reboot and repetitively tries to write data to the full hard disk resulting in errors which lead to the hang.

That is just my 2 cents. Take it for what its worth. I've never had much luck in the software forum.

The BIOS (old) could be a problem but before you do that, you might try rebooting then F8 into VGA mode. If that works, it's because your W2K CD doesn't have the correct drivers for your card.
W2K can run with networking in VGA mode, so just grab the drivers and install them.
