i need some serious help

i run win2k pro and when i goto the task manager (ctrl+ alt +delete) there is a process called System Idle Process when takes up 96-99% of my cpu. When i try to end the process it says
the operation is not valid for this process. Is there anyway i can get rid of this thing its killing my cpu.

System idle process is what the computer does when it isnt doing anything. Its basically how much of the cpu is NOT being used. The system idle process tells the cpu to stop doing everything when it is idle so that it creates less heat.

oh so im not suppose to experience slow downs?

If your experiencing slowdowns while system idle is at 99 then it isn't a problem with cpu usage. Check RAM availability and run HDTach on your HD.
