Hi,
I'm playing an online game called lineage and am experiencing problems with what initaiily appear to be lag although now I'm not so sure. I have a PIII 1GHx, with 270 MB RAM and a DSL connection (Alcatel Spped Touch Home), running on Win2k.
The lag seems to happen when I'm in fights, I don't experience lag very much normally, but as soon as I start hitting things in the game I pretty much start freezing.
I've made some some ping tests to the server when not playing, playing but not fighting and when fighting.
Difference is pretty big - 210 ms not playing, 230 ms when playing and 350 ms when fighting with about 5% packet loss (This is average time for about 5 mins, max time in a fight can be up to 1300ms!!).
I'm connecting form Amsterdam which could be a factor but I have a fast DSL link and the problem is pretty consistant no matter what time of day I play.
Only thing which I could see as a problem is me running lineage on Win2K.
I've tried the autotweaker and adjusted MTU however when I do the tweak test it always reports back as 1400.
My tweak results are as follows :
TCP options string = 020405500103030201010402
MTU = 1400
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput.
MSS = 1360
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1360, which is equal to MSS.
MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
522240 (MSS x 48 * scale factor of 8)
261120 (MSS x 48 * scale factor of 4)
130560 (MSS x 48 * scale factor of 2)
65280 (MSS x 48)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = OFF
Time to live left = 47 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000
Basically just want to optimise my connection for online gaming, any help appreciated,
Snow
