I've clocked over 8Mbps on cable. (4 year old Motorola Cybersurfr)
The max speed on cable is 10mbps.

The max speed of the ethernet interface on most modems is 10Mbps.

Is the limit for upload also 10Mbps???
RR says that "in theory" cable can go as fast as 27Mbps...but don't even think about getting that high with any provider. Most cable customers around here are capped at 3000/384.

In theory they can, but first of all thats with no-body on your node and Cable modems just cant go faster than 10Mbps and were made that way purposely.

ATT RR in So CA is capped at 1.5K down, 300 up.:(
In 1995 I installed a couple of 2 meter satellite dishes at the Warner cable head-end in Akron Ohio where they were doing testing on what would be rolled out as the first cable modem test in America. (Road Runner)
Anyhow, they showed me how the setup worked and demonstrated it for me.
They also said that they had it running at 16mbps.
All I knew was that it opened up a full screen picture in about the time it took me to open a text e-mail on my 14.4/19.2 modem.

Does anyone know if @Home allowes you to pay more to set your speed faster? e.g. upload speed?
You cant pay for faster speeds, as far as I know.
My cable speeds are 8600/800.
The MAX I heard a person get down was about 9, and up was no more than 2.

I have AT&T @ HOME cable....which suppose to have a max connection speed of 1.5mb/s downstream and 128K/s upstream...but i've never technically downloaded somethin over 400kb/s or uploaded anything over 20kb/s
99% of modems in the market have 10baseT ports and therefore cannot go any faster even if in the perfect situation than 10mbps either way. Those modems with 10/100 ports in theory could inhale the whole node and reach 27mbps, but this never happens.
