System 1 ghz athlon 256 ram win me. cox@home

TCP options string = 020405b40103030201010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 47 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

VonJames posted something very similar. In the day my connection slows down to a crawl or pages won't load at all. Even trying to run a speed test or download test can be very
slow or not happen at all. The strange part is it
happens in the day time and after about 6pm it connects
very well. Night time 2500 down and 280 up. In the day time
i'm real lucky if I get 1\2 that speed. They say it could be a line
in issue from the pole. After 2 reps were out you would
think they would know that. Cox also says it could be a
modem problem. Are they trying to tell me my modem only
works well at night, give me a break.
In about 3 hours another tech from cox will be out. I'm
posting this kind of late but I really want to resolve
the problem. Can anyone give me some info that will help me
or at least more questions or issues I can bring up to
the cox cable guy? BTW a friend has the same modem,
CMX 110 Best Data that I can borrow next week to eliminate
a possibility of cox steering me in the wrong direction
if they tell me its my modem. Thanks in advance, reeo
:) :) :)

Well the problem may be traffic. It could also be signal noise. Do you have cable tv?

Thanks xbit, yes it could be traffic but would that include
any site I try to go to? Cox has pinged my modem and
said the last time there is a large packet drop.
I do have cable tv, but the line to my computer is
direct. The tv is another line. It slowed today about an
hour ago but it still works ok. Its when I can't connect
or if I do I keep getting the page not found. It can take a
loooong time just to see any progress. Thanks, reeo:) :)

hows the picture on your tv. is it clear, does have lines or ghosting?. While the tech is there tell him that right after you had the tech install the network card that is was slow and doesn't work. This way he'll put in a new nic for free (tell him its the one the tech installed;)) Then tell him that sometimes your cable tv will go out for hours at a time;) When he gets there tell him that just before he arrived you lost your cable tv and you internet but it came back up about 15minutes ago. Tell him that stuff if you don't mind lying to him. This way he will put in a new network card, Check the signals of your line(s), and he will probably give you a new cable modem. If he gets you a new cable modem ask him if he could give you an rca or a toshiba. Good luck.

Thanks for the info xbit. The cable guy was here before
I got to read this post. The line through the house now
is ok, and last week I was told it wasn't. He changed the
splitter out back and said there could be some bleed
back from the tv. The connections were fine and the
line in had no problems. Today there has been little problem
and now it works great. He said call him monday if it
comes to a stop again. It figures no problem when the
guy is here. Monday when the traffic is higher and the
heat is up i'll see what happens. He tells me it will slow
down during high traffic which I understand, but said it
should never come to a stop. The tv picture has been
very good, but i do remember for a while it had some
ghosts and lines in it but went away. thanks again, reeo:) :)

This symptom happened to me.
It turned out that my static IP was given to somebody else, because @home had to reissue my a new user ID name.
Anyhow, my problem was because somebody else and I were setup on the same IP address.
If you are set up with a static IP, call cox and ask them what IP they think you should have.

As far as I know, You should be using a DHCP retrieved IP address.

Once I went DHCP and had my own IP address, I wasn't sharing an IP with someone else in my neighborhood and my stopping problem disapeered.

The cox guy was out yesterday. As I said no problems. Today
is another story, same problems. He asked me to restart my computer and afterwords everything was normal again.
I do not know about the address settings your refering to
but I do know in the begining I had an one the same as
a person on the east coast, i'm out west, but has been
resolved some time ago. Under start/run, they had me type in
winipcfg which brings up all of the addresses. Mine shows
under Ethernet adaptor info my IP# which is correct, and
it does show a# for DHCP server. Not a clue what all
this info really is. The guy did tell me he wants to replace
the ethernet card this afternoon because he said by
restarting the comp the card may have cooled down. He
said their could be a problem with it or it could overheat.
I'll show him your post so he will better understand it
rather than me explain it. Thanks for your help Dave and
if this reply tells you anything please feel free to reply.
Thanks again, Reeo :)

Try useing the larger wrin posted in the TCP\IP analazer. It should help you out a little you are running 1ghz athlon processer. It should be able to handle it. Plus give you a little more speed. Hope this helps along with your provider. GoodLuck!;)

I may try to change the rwin again but I'm wating for a
consistant connection. The cox guy was out and replaced
the nic card, and gave me a different IP address.
I seem to be up and flying again now. I think the ip
change may have done it. Thanks for the suggestion Storm
and I do plan to experiment more . BTW the problem did
exist when he was here, so he does know that I do or
did have a problem with connection. Last time he was here
would'nt you know no problem existed. reeo:)
