Ive been trying to enable DMA mode for my hardrive. So far I havent been able to do it. I check the box for DMA in device manager but when I reboot, Its still unchecked. Ive also added the lines

HKR,,IDEDMADRIVE0,3,01
HKR,,IDEDMADRIVE1,3,01

to windows\Inf\Mshdc.inf. & Diskdrv.inf.

I have also updated my bios hoping it would help, but I still have DMA unchecked everytime I reboot =( Maybe I need to change settings in my bios?..... I know my harddrive & mother board support DMA

Not sure which system specs you need but I have a ASUS P2-99 Intel 440zx AGP SET motherboard & am running Windows 98 SE with an award bios for ASUS.
My hard drive is a fujitsu model: mpe3102at

Any ideas guys? I could really use the help...

right click on My Computer, select Properties, select the Device Manager tab, now open the Disk drivers folder and look at the disk that is not called a floppy by selecting it and clicking the Properties button. now you will see a place that has a chick box for DMA.

that should do it!

Dude thanks for the response..but what I was saying in my first message was Ive tried this already. When I reboot I come back and its still unchecked. Ive also added the lines to the before mentioned .inf files. I have even updated my bios! I really would like to enable it. Anybody out there have any suggestions. Maybe I need to configure something differently in my bios?

i enabled mine using the same technique bigamp posted - i don't know what to tell ya. Norm can probably help or possibly TonyT in software forum - they are both very clever.

sorry...not all drives are supported. that may be the reason.

right click my computer, goto properties, device mamager, system devices, direct memory access controller and make sure it's there and that you have 64K selected for the reserve DMA buffer in the settings tab

Hey thanks for the responses. I changed my DMA buffer settings to 64k but no luck getting DMA to stick. One thing Im curious about is when I was looking in that DMA Control Tab in the System Settings, I went to view the info for the DMA controller Driver. I noticed in the driver file details there was no File Version, Copyright or Provider listed. Do you think I have to update my DMA controller Driver? It says there are no conflicts and that its working fine. Where would I update that driver? My HD probably just wont support it but Im still not giving up :)

Thanks

goto your device manger. in there you want to goto your hard drive CONTROLLER. (ie Primary IDE Controller or Secondary IDE Controller).

So if you are attempting to get DMA on your main HD, go to the Primary IDE Controller (Properties), and in there is an Advanced Settigns Tab. Enable DMA there and reboot.

Neo...Im not sure. That had crossed my mind also. Where do I locate drivers for DMA? I though they were just like generic drivers installed with windows ect
