Awhile back I asked why PCPitstop attempted to add a key to my registry and place files on my system. Now I know why:

Napster's Hank Barry insisted that, despite the new filtering technology, the file-trading company remains the market leader. He cited a report from PC Pitstop, which found that Napster was installed on 40 percent of the PCs on the market. The next nearest competitor, mIRC, placed a distant second with only 6 percent market penetration.
Sorry, gentlemen but PCPitsop installs Spyware on your machines :(

I am aware they install Active X to read whats in your registry, here is the list of spyware and Pcpitstop is not on it here (http://www.infoforce.qc.ca/spyware/enknownlistfrm.html)

I think what the letter is saying is it is already on computers when they come to pitstop :)

I ran my ad wares program to make sure I'm clean and then went to the PC Pitstop site. ran a connection test and then ran the Ad ware program again...
It turned up a "DoubleClick" spyware program on the scan.
So beware! :)

The question is: How do they know Napster is already on our computers? Obviously they are compiling data for market research and they are using PCPitsop as a front :(

I like pitstop and there is a way to keep doubleclick of your computer if the person who knows how to would post it, I saw it before and can't remember where:) :)

Lobo, it isn't Doubleclick I'm worried about. PCPitsop installs a couple of files (probably similar to Webhancer) on your PC. I caught them cuz eSafe alerted me :(

Hi Lobo! :)
Dannjr gave it to me to put on the wifey's PC.. I'll go get it.
as for removal use this AdAwares program. It's a free ware and advailable here-->AdAwares Site (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/)
This will remove any known spywares.
I'll be back in a short about the keeping them out files! :D

Thanx Bugs. I think everyone here is familiar with Ad Aware. My concern is we are directing unsuspecting users to a site that apparently loads Spyware on their PC's :(

Compliments Of Dannjr over at Broadbandnuts. :)
You need to run adaware to remove them out of your registery.
Then you go to Tools on your Tool bar,
then to Internet Options,
Then click on the Security Tab,
Then click on the Restrictive Sites Icon.
Click on the "sites"
Then add these in
*.doubleclick.net
*.flycast.com
*.valueclick.com

Add them in one by one and exactly as they are above.
save all that and it will work. It has on my wife's PC

K I've just but on ad-aware so I'm new to it is there any files I want to leave? it found five of them when I ran it.
they are:
c:\windows\tsad.dll (timesink)type F and V
c:\windows\profiles\****\cookies\hp authorized customer@doubleclick[2].txt (doubleclick) type F
the tsad.dll came up three times (2 as type F and 1 as type V) and the other file came up two time both as type F
so in short what should I do with these file? keep'em or dump'em

Lobo

Well you have to way the thing out, I used to go to that dsl place until they called us @home addicts, alot of people do not have the time to test using a download or whatever and prefer online testing, pcpitstop is very accurate in there reporting so if it takes a one time thing to be able to use their stuff rather than the other,
OK for shame, I'm shamefull, and ready to jump, but I have been saved by Dannjr and Buggyman so I can watch the race tonight, lol :)

Buggyman

Those I gave you are just a few to block.. there are more out there.
But if you know the site address like i gave you above you can add them as well... just becareful :)
The best thing to do is run the adaware ever so often to nuke em! :)
Later Guys! :D

Thanks.

I just learned how badly infected, infested and infiltrated I was with these dirty nasty little bugs. So I squished the lot of them, thanks to you all. What a great bunch here at Speedguide. I need to spend more time listening to you all.

Now if only if only I could get rid of that annoying ad at the top of this page that blinks its little yellow neon sign at me and tells me "Your free entry arrived" How I would love to squish her.
She is so distracting!!!!!! (Has to be a woman)
