View Full Version : Intermittent Packet Loss
I have been on a cable connection for over 3 years now, and for the last 8 months my modem has been doing some strange things. First of all, I was on Rogers@Home until Shaw took over in my area, so now I'm on Shaw@Home, but the problems started before the switch. Anyway, the problem is that I get about a 30 second to 1 minute chunk of 100% packet loss about every 8-10 minutes, whether I'm browsing the Internet or playing an online game. Other than these times, my connection is perfect - no packet loss, low pings, high speeds. I don't know if the problem is with my hardware (over three years old), configurations, or just the ISP. I have two friends using Shaw@Home that live within 2 kilometres of me and they have no problems at all. Please help me.

Hey man, I'm having the same problem with my cable service. I have Road Runner (Time Warner) and I just started having this problem about a month ago. My friend lives about 2 blocks away and he has the problem also. Hopefully the cable guy can fix it when he comes Monday, then it will be back to REGULAR surfing and online games. I'll come back and tell you what he did and see if it can work for you.
Both of you need to do this first:
Please click in my signature where it says Test your tweak here, then:
At top where it says edit click and select, Select all,
Then go back to same edit button at top, click and select copy.
Come back to Speedguide, same thread you were on, in post reply box, with cursor blinking at begining of box go to top, edit, click, select paste, click, this will put information in box. Please X out your IP address, Thank you.

TCP options string = 020405b40103030201010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 50 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000
Here it is, I hope this helps.
Sornin, Your test looks fine, I would call cable company for truck roll (house call0 You may need new modem, Don't let them tell you their standard answer that everythings fine, insist they come and check it out
