Hey folks, I know you're probably sick of these questions, but...

I just re-formatted with 98SE, ran the SG tweak for 9X ME with PPPoE.

Hoping to improve my DSL results with the SG TCP/IP analyzer.

Got the following results, and yes I've rebooted.

TCP options string = 020405860103030201010402

MTU = 1454
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput.

MSS = 1414
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1414, which is equal to MSS.
MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 255552
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 63888
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
520352 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 8)
260176 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 4)
130088 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 2)
65044 (MSS x 46)

I guess my question is, if "The patch adds all the optimum settings for Cable modem, DSL, or any similar broadband connection that has PPPoE implemented," then why are the MTU and RWIN still not optimized?

I double-checked and the IP address shown is correct.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I used the generic tweaks because I know nothing about manually tweaking the registry.

Go to help page below in my signature, middle of 1st page click on DSL, pay attention to MaxFrameSize, this is your problem, the downloads do not work, REBOOT after you change to 1492:) :)

This may be of some help to you here (http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37660) :) :)

Thanks for the tips, I'll look at the links. If the patches don't work, why are they there?

It explains it to you in link I gave you above, it did work until a few days ago and they are working on it, sorry:) :)

My fault, I misunderstood you:rolleyes:

When you said the downloads don't work, I thought you meant the SG tweak patches.

One thing, if the optimized setting for MTU is 1500, why are we setting it to 1492?

Sorry, I just answered my own question. 1492 is optimized for PPPoE.

Thanks for your advice though, I appreciate it.

OK, A question about options in Cablenut.

Under CCS/PPPoE, I choose one of the following options.

DSL (PPPoE)
pppoe_normal.ccs = Intended for DSL users that have below the 1.5Mb/it speed package.
pppoe_fast.ccs = Intended for DSL users that have the 1.5Mb/it speed package.
pppoe_router.ccs = Optimal for users who run a Linksys, or UGate router.
pppoe_enternet100-300.ccs = For users who use the Enternet version 100, and 300 PPPoE software.

I have a below 1.5 Mbit speed package, AND I have EnterNet 300 software. So should I choose the pppoe_normal or pppoe_enternet100-300?

Before you do anything make sure you BACK UP and you have a lot of questions maybe try this link and it may help.

Try both, reboot and retest your speeds. Also check with the TCP/IP Analyzer after each change to see if it actually was saved to the registry. If you don't acheive the best speeds you can also try these for DefaultRcvWindow:139392, 174240, 185856, To try the next 5, set Tcp1323Opts to 0, and set it to 1 to try the one's before:23232, 26136 29040, 40656 and 55176. Remember to click Save to Registry and then done before rebooting. Retest and let us know if you're going faster or not. Good luck.
