Thanks Norm,
I found that I could disable the task scheduler without causing any problems. One of them disabled dial up so I put it back. There are a bunch about networking which I don't use can I disable them?

Don't knock yourself about 2000 Norm, you know more about computers then most!!! You have taught me a lot about 2000 with posts and links. I have found that a lot of times all I need is for someone to point in that direction and say you might find the answer there.
Richardc,
Thank-you the zdnet site had exactly what I was looking for!!
Problem solved! Thank-you,
Christopher

Glad it worked - the Disable Script Debugging is probably in the Internet Properties/Advanced section. Also, if you have a dual boot win 98 or Me and W2k , you can run msconfig from the Run box by typing in the complete path to msconfig on your c:\ drive -
just ignore all the error messages that popup - Myself, I use XSetup and Start Up Control Panel by Mike LIn.
