TCP options string = 0204056401010402

MTU = 1420
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput.

MSS = 1380
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1380, which is equal to MSS.
MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 16560
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 16560
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
507840 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 8)
253920 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 4)
126960 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 2)
63480 (MSS x 46)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 662.4 kbps (82.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 264.96 kbps (33.12 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 114 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000
---------------------------------------------------------

Can anyone tell me how to get my MTU higher. Can not seem to get it higher myself.

I have DSL Connection, Sympatico -- AMD6k3 450 -- 128 RAM

Thanks for any help, Jim :)

What are you using to connect to the internet? WinPoet, Enternet or RASPPPoE? You can check the network adapters in the network properties and see if it's limiting your MTU. What are you using to change your MTU? Have you tried the CableNut adjuster? You can click the link titled CableNut Adjuster in my signature. Download and install it, it's far better than having to go in your registry and editing it manually.

Note: Once installing the adjuster it removes the settings any of any patches you have had installed.

If you're using WinPoet then click Start > Run, type Regedit and hit Enter. When Registry Editor opens up, click Edit and select Find. Where it says Find what: type TunnelMode (registry values are case sensitive;type it exactly how I have it) and hit Enter. When it finds TunnelMode, right click it and select Modify. Change the value from 1 to 0. Click Ok and close Registry Editor. Reboot and take the TCP/IP Analyzer test again. If it reports 1454 again, then click Refresh. Your MTU should be 1492 now (if that's what you have it set to in the Registry). Let us know how everything turns out. Good luck.

Note: If you can't connect to the internet after changing the setting to 0, then change it back to 1 and reboot.

I called Mpower(Sympatico) and they did not seem to be sure of the way I are connected to the internet. They did say that I was not connected by RASPPPoE. Can not seen to find TunnelMode in my Registry. I did have CableNut Adjuster install orf my machine.
Thanks for the infomation, and I will keep tring.:)

download «2360 kbps

upload «894 kbps

These are the speeds I am getting now from http://nyc.speakeasy.net/

Test done Friday 10:45 am Atlantic Time(Canada)

Well i just took my test

Speed 607(down)/24(up) kbps **
(At least 12 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish. is that good????

download «607 kbps

upload «24 kbps

i think thats the highest i ever got

WEll im surprised, the first one was on AOL and the one i just took on EI was alot higher

Speed 1916(down)/253(up) kbps **
(At least 38 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.

Your download speed : 1916391 bps, or 1916 kbps.
Browsers would show : about a 233.9 k/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 253968 bps, or 253 kbps.
Your connection rocks .. above the 1mbit barrier!

the highest i ever got im gonna Use EI from now on, im gonna do one more test on Opera

Xtorm

This is as far as Opera got and im still waiting

Test running..Downloaded 60900bytes in 1930ms
Downloaded 696000bytes in 4180ms
First guess is 1332kbps
fairly fast line - now test 2mb
Downloaded 1679100bytes in 6540ms

im gonna donwload the new version and use EI from now on and keep AOL on(which i have a question about that too, does it slow you down when your on EI and your not doing anything but chatting on AOL)becasue i dont wanna transfer 300 people to another buddy list :) ill get back to you on Opera if it ever finishes

Xtorm

It didnt finish, so that tell you how much that sucks, everybody stick with EI, lot faster, how much is the lowest cost for a T3 or T1 or what is faster than that

Jim044, go here (http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~normanb/) and download RASPPPoE. Uninstall the current version of PPPoE that you're currently using, then install RASPPPoE. The instructions are in the download. Your MTU can now be set to 1492. If you want to reinstall the PPPoE client that you had before RASPPPoE just use your ISP's software. It's really odd that they didn't know what you use to connect... in fact, it's retarded. What are your advertised speeds?

damn i just donwloaded to EI version 6 beta and you cant freaking surf i gotta go redownload the version 5.5 now

Before installing the new PPPoe I want to be sure that I am doing the right thing. If I go into the Network Configuration there are five (5) things listed -1)Client for Microsoft Networks, 2)Dial-Up Adapter 3) TCP/IP - > Dial-up Adapter 4) TCP/IP -> SMC EZ Card PCI Adapter (SMC1208)

I do not see PPPoe listed, maybe gave you the wrong information

When I called Mpower they said that inside the network they give 200k-300k down, the upsteam they were not sure. Outside the network downsteam would be about 1/2 the other total.

Any help on getting the most out of my "fast connection" would be great.

Jim

Well since I don't know which PPPoE client you're using I guess I'll have to work on your current MSS. Set Tcp1323Opts to 1 and try these RWINS: 60720, 121440, 242880, 364320 and 485760. Reboot and retest after applying each RWIN. Good luck.

Tried all the different values and then run the test provided by this site. With each different number I but into my REG using the Cabkenut program the test would say my DefaultRcvWindow number would stay the same as 65535  . Have you seen this problem before or is this something with my computer only.:rotfl:
Nothing ever seems to be simple :D

Thanks for all you help

Jim

P.S. Using Windows ME

Do you have Tcp1323Opts set to 1?

Lobo

There are only 2 reasons why you would get reading of 65535:
1. Vtcp1323Opts, set it to 1
2. Vtcp 386th Fix patch:) :)

EvilAjax

Patch wont work on Windows ME, only thing it could be is Tcp1323Opts :)

Lobo

I know that Evil, I was just letting people know what might cause that reading, if there is no 386th for ME, then__________________,lol:) :) da-da

Yup, did change the tcp13230pts to 1 -- got me what could be wrong -- probably something stupid. I keep trying -- it will come to me sometime
