Hi,
I am trying to transfer my mail from one cpu (my ex-main) which uses outlook express to my new cpu (current main) which uses outless express 5.0. I know where the mail files are and everything, the problem seems to be that regular outlook express uses .mbx as the inbox extension while oe5.0 uses .dbx.
When i try to import messsages from oe5.0 i get a mapi client error.
anyone help?
thx in advance

mail folders from one computer to another computer (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q257/4/99.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=mail%20folders&rnk=32&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=OEX)

thx for the links tony.
I exported the mail on my old cpu (regular outlook express) and it exported it in a .mbx format. My new cpu uses 5.0 outlook express and it uses .dbx format (like the article).
thats my problem.
These are the directions given in that webpage -
Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
In the Named box, type *.dbx, and then click Find Now. Note the path of the file name and location of your mail folders. These are the files that end in *.dbx.
NOTE: If you use identities, each user has their own mail folder.
Copy or back up the mail folders to your backup media by using your own backup program or Microsoft Backup (MSbackup) that is included with the operating system.
NOTE: If the size of the mail folders are less than 1.4 megabytes (MB), copy them to a disk one at a time, and then move them to the second computer.
Create a folder called "Mail" (without quotation marks) on the computer that is receiving the transported mail folders.
Restore or paste the mail folders into the Mail folder that you created. Note to include the Folders.dbx file when you copy from the first computer. This file is necessary for the import functions in Outlook Express.
After you have moved all the mail folders, including the Folder.dbx file, to the second computer, use the import function in Outlook Express 5.
Start Outlook Express 5.
On the File menu, click Import, and then click Messages.
Click Microsoft Outlook Express 5.
Click Import mail from OE5 store directory, and then locate the mail folder that you created.
When you are receive the prompt to select the mail folder that you want to import, click Import all of the Mail Folders listed. This merges e-mail messages into any of the default folders and creates all other folders that are not default on this computer.
Unless of course the older maching is running OE 4 versions, which use the .mbx format, in whuicjh case you will need to edit the registry switch for that filetype (.mbx)
Here is the complete fix -
OE4 to OE5 (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q231/7/96.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=.mbx&rnk=10&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=OEX)
If the new machine never had IE4 installed then the converter for .mbx to .dbx is by default switched off.
