I've had a lot of lockups and errors lately, so it's time to reformat and reinstall. How do you copy the windows cd and reinstall from there? Does it sometimes give you a better install?

thanks!

I think the best way to go about it is to just copy the setup dir on to a new partition and the format c: then boot to a floppy d:\setup.exe

Oh by the way it is alot faster that way too.

Yep. Just Highlight the setup.exe and the setup dir(win98,i386 etc) and copy them to the root of the new partition.

Once you've got your C: drive formatted, copy the Windows installation files to the hard drive. This will speed up the installation and ensure that you have copies of the Windows install files available in the future. No more fumbling for the Windows CD when you install new hardware. All you need is the files in the WIN98 directory, although if you have a large enough hard drive you can copy the entire CD to it. I suggest creating a folder called WIN98 on your hard drive and sticking the files there. Once the files are copied, pop out the floppy and restart your machine. It should start up, and you should see the C: prompt grinning at you. Time to begin the installation of Windows. Change to the install directory you just created (CD WIN98 for example) and type SETUP. The setup should begin, and you're in business

Thank you very much for your help. I ended up copying the entire contents of win98se to E: partition then formatting C:. Then, through dos, I ran E:\setup.exe. It worked fine.

thanks again for your time!
