This is my first time posting here but I lurk here and the tweak forum alot and think you guys are just worth your weight in gold as far as knowledge goes :)

Ok enough sucking up I have a question for you.

First have any of you tried playing Anarchy Online?

If you have then you know they're having a hell of a time getting the bugs worked out of their setup which is to bad cause it's a really cool game.

I understand that the protocol they're using to transfer data is TCP. Now I'm no expert on the use of tcp or udp and which is better (though I know the pros and cons) but I do know that I'm having a hell of a time staying connected. :cry:

My question is do you guys know any tweaks I can do to my system that would help me stay connected while Funcom continues to work out their bugs?

Here's my setup:

Celeron 566 running at 765
Abit SE6
GeForce Pro
128mgs of Ram
SB Live
Win98SE
Toshiba Cable Modem
Linksys USB NIC
@Home Cable

Analyzer Data:

TCP options string = 020405b40103030201010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 52 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

I also have the tweaks from here and some cablenut tweaks. Anything I can change or do to my modem to help me stay connected?

Thanks for your help!

To be honest with you, the best thing you can do is keep a clean fresh install of Windows, apply the Windows updates, and the only thing I modify is the VTCP.386 which you can from this site's download section, because the original is known to have bugs.

I've yet to see any other tweak do jack squat to improve the performance of a fresh clean install. Yes they can help out old rigs that haven't ever been reformatted, have been upgraded in OS's over the years, like an original Win95 install that was upgraded to Win98, etc.

But most hard core gamers who are serious about the performance of their rigs reformat at least once a year anyways.

The other thing you can do is choose a quality ISP if you're hard into online gaming.

YeOldeStonecat :)

I was afraid there wasn't much we could do but I thought I'd ask anyway. It's just pretty frustrating to be teased by a really great looking game that we can't stay connected to :( But I know the company is working hard to fix it.

I try to keep my system as clean as possible and I probably format at least twice a year (yeah that might be much hehe).

I think I have the VTCP.386 patch but I'll check to make sure.

Thanks again for the tips!
