went to check my e-mail and i have recieved a bunch of e-mails from various people whom i have never heard of. all the people are requesting that they be dropped from "the mailing list". the subject/contents all point towards something or someone called "ALMA EDIZIONI". it looks like an italian add/spam sort of thing.

this is really strange. it came to my main e-mailbox (and 99% of the time i use a junk mailbox i created. unless its for a site i trust, of which there are maybe 3). in OE, the "To:" field, it reads RUNE@LISTSERV.ROCKSTARGAMES.COM where it would normally have my e-mail address (obviously as the addressee). the only thing that stands out is RUNE, which is a game i have/play, and i have d/l'd updates...... possibly from a server in italy.

my questions are a) why would i be getting e-mails from people asking me to drop them from the mailing list if i didnt send anything to anybody of this nature?

any ideas?

Try asking the people who sent you the requests

Most likely a spammer has used your e-mail when they signed up for a list serving account and it says at the bottom "To be removed from this list, please send an email to (your email address). Lots of times they use this to check whether the accounts they are spamming are active and tehn to can sell the active accounts for $$$.

heh... well, i suppose its possible. i just dont think i ever used my real e-mail address. then again, who knows. there have been so many times that i think i must have slipped up once or twice. the only think i can think of is something related to Gamespy, but i dont know for sure.

but the fact remains, and Hatter's suggestion seems the most likely scenario. i have managed to keep this e-mail address for 2 years, and sure dont want to have to change it....... then again its probably a good idea anyways.

thanks for the help, men :)
