View Full Version : Cable modem stops transmitting, then starts after seconds, minutes

For about a month and a half, I've had this problem. I've tried various registry twinks and the like, to no avail.

My cable modem stopped working (@home service) and a tech came out and replaced it. I got my service back. But ever since then, when I'm web browsing, it will stop loading a web page. Sometimes, after five or so seconds, it would start back up again, sometimes it wouldn't, and I'd have to hit stop, then hit the link again.

I also play Everquest, and my lag has just been horrendous (for those familiar, the Lag-O-Meter goes red and stays, then will go back to green, then red). It was never like this before, I had always had good connectivity.

Is this a bad modem? Or is there something I can change? Sometimes, it works just fine, but it's very rare. The other night, I had done one tweak or another, and it worked awesome for about 15 minutes!! Then, it didn't work so good anymore. That leads me to believe that it may not be a bad modem. Could be wrong, though.

As I said earlier, before the previous modem went bad (it just stopped connecting one day), I had wonderful service, with very very rare interruptions.

Help?

Thanks!

sounds like a problem with a cable modem or signal. call your provider to have them come test your lines

Most likely your ISP... or possibly your NIC/Drivers

Id try to find the latest drivers for your NIC and see how it works... If you still have problems contact your ISP.

Do you have cable tv or have you split the signal, that could be the problem also.

My guess is modem or severe packet loss. Try pinging your gateway. Check cable connections.

Are you using USB to connect your cable modem to the computer? cos USB is very unstable and is the worst way of doing it. The best way is to get a network card and connect it through that. This gives a much more reliable connection and can often speed up the whole process
