It's important to remember that a GeForce 2 Ultra will out perform a GeForce 3 in a fair number of benchmarks right now. The GF3 is highly dependent on software being written to take advantage of it's new features.

As soon as games start taking advantage of this card all bets are off though :)

I love nVidia vid cards. I started out with the voodoo the first week it came out, then when nVidia finally got their act together with the original TNT1, I picked up an Asus card. Still have it in my desk here somewhere. Had some voodoo2 SLI cards for a while. Then got a TNT2, then the first GeForce1. I like Asus brand vid cards, they seem to have higher quality memory on them, with good heat sinks, you can overclock them quite high.

I recently picked up two GeForce3 cards to replace my GF1 and Matrox G450. The first is an Asus v8200 Pure, which is incredible, in my primary rig here. Gorgeous looking black card, with a gigantic gold heat sink and fan spreading across the 64 megs of DDR. Perfect match for my Asus Black Pearl motherboard, which is black with gold trim, inside a black case, with my Golden Orb cooling on the giger CPU.

The other is the Hercules 3D Prophet III, which is all blue, with a blue mini orb, and nice heat sinks. That one is in my dual boot NT4/98se rig.

Yes a GF2Ultra will take out a GF3 in many, if not most of todays current games, especially DX games, GF3 regains some in OpenGL games.

One thing though, for those who ran 3DMark 2001 with anything other than a GF3....if you can ever get a chance to see it running on a GF3....watch it closely.....your jaw will drop to the floor. Many of the levels and demos were simply skipped on non GF3 cards because they couldnt' support it. And many of the levels, even though they ran on a non GF3 card, well, so much more delicious eye candy on a GF3.

Regardless, the rate of becoming obsolete is really increasing. No more days of buying a nice vid card and keeping up with the games for a couple of years.....

BTW, back then I paid 440 for the Asus, and 475 for the Herc....they've some down a bit. I used to buy only at gamepc.com, but I found a great place in NY, http://www.essencompu.com which has fantastic prices. You can find GF3s well under 400 bucks now.
