Hello-

hope someone out there can help me. I have had cable modem service for 4 months without incident. However, recently my machine began to hang while accessing the internet. I'd cntrl-alt-delete and task mgr would show that MSGSVR32.exe stopped responding. I end that task and attempt to access the net again, but to no avail. Reboot, access the net for a few minutes and sure enough that file fails to respond. I called tech support and was told that Windows is causing my problem - not the modem. Checked microsoft's site - no luck there. Does anybody know what this file does, why it loads and why it hangs up my system all of a sudden? I have an external motorola surfboard modem, connected to a USB port. The system is an AMD K7 950. I have already tried doing a clean install of WIN 98 SE and that did not fix the problem. I have been using a Toshiba laptop with the cable modem successfully without problems, however I'd much rather be using my desktop.... thanks.

Try going to start-run-type msconfig-go to startup tab- and you can uncheck MSGSVR32.exe or any program you don't wan't to startup when you boot.

Welcome to Speedguide!

Msgsrv32 is an integral part of Windows and is involved in many tasks. See the following:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q169/9/87.asp?FR=1

for one possibility.

You can serach for msgsrv32 using Google and find a lot of notes about problems.

Thanks for all of the advice folks. All the links were educational, though I havn't solved my problem. So, I purchased Win ME and a new mobo (I did find out that a usb port on my board was bad) and I am startin from scratch... we'll see how it goes! Thanks again!
