I still play the HELL out of HALFLIFE. Been playin for 3 years now. Got no problems with ping, I ping between 30-100. Like I said no problem. But this Ramdrive got me thinking........ Have any of you gamers stored files from Halflife,Counterstrike,Quake....etc into your Ramdrives? If so, let me know. Just wondering. Thanx in advance.

What files could you possibly put on the ramdrive that would in any way effect your game play for the better?

One Master of the RamDrive is NORM.

I have never paid attention to what files CS writes to during operation,,, but if it does read and write to a swap file then you could possibly get some bang for your buck there, but that would be related to internal lag.

One other thing I have heard of, if I remember correctly,,,, is running TCP/IP from the ramdrive,,, from what I remember it slows your boot time down but I believe it had good overall results..... I think I read something on that in the Tweaking forum,,, U would have to search for it.

It wouldn't speed up game play whatsoever. But it would speed up loading time. This is because the game is already loaded into ram once your actually playing.

Well, there is a way to allocate RAM for CS to use, you'll have to edit the command line in your CS shortcut on your desktop or wherever your shortcut is.

1. Right click the CS shortcut, go to Properties
2. In the Target field, add this command after hl.exe -game cstrike -console..... -heapsize

So an example for a computer with 128 MB of RAM would be...

hl.exe -game cstrike -console - heapsize 96000

That allocates 96 MB of RAM for CS to use. You should generaly allocate about 75% of RAM in your system to CS during gameplay. Other examples follow...

-24000 = 24 MB for a system with 64 MB
-96000 = 96 MB for a system with 128 MB
-192000 = 192 MB for a system with 256 MB
