I used to be able to have 7 players on my UT server with no problems. Then a few months ago I started to suffer bad lag and the pings would go into the thousands. I checked the download/upload speeds and found that they where a pathetic 400 download/ 50-100 upload. I asked Road Runner what they should be and was told 300-1500 download and 380 uload. I complained to Road Runner (alot cuz their attitude was, Its still better then a modem). They finally said they;l test the lines and re-route if necessary and they gave me a DOCSIS cable modem (the old one wasn't). Then I tested my speeds and they came up 600 download/ 300-360 upload. I was a happy camper ( until I set up my server again). If I get more then 5 players I get terrible lag (ping of 1,000 or more). I've done the math of 7 players time 5,000 bandwidth times 8 = 280,000 which is below my low end 300 kbps upload. So there shouldn't be any problems . What gives? Any ideas on what I can do? I use speakeasy.net and dslreports.com for my speed tests ( which I told RR this is how I checked my download and upload). Is there another way I can check my speed.?
