What kind of video card would that be? If it's a pretty good card, then you might be experiencing some ping spikes or packet loss.

This is a dumb question but...........

Just for the hell of it, did you ever try a different server?

Maybe your modem dosent like that server ;)

try playing offline and if you "lag" when there's a lot of people on the screen, than it's your computer....if you don't, then it'll probably be your connection

I don't play Counter Strike but like most other fps games I play you can download a script that shows frames per second while you play. Install that (if you find one ) and watch while you play.
If your frames per second drop below 15-20 then its a video/cpu problem if they stay 30+ then its a connection problem

To find out what video card u have, just right click on your desktop. click on properties. then click on the last TAB. I think is setting if not mistaken. Then display type. Post your computer spec pls. If not hard to know whats the actual problem is ? Can u try run it in Open GL ? Set it in the video mode while you in the CS configuration screen. Then in the game, pull down console. Type net_graph 1 to see how many fps when u r in a intense battle with many player shooting at the same time, or with smoke. Type this command fps_max 100. I tried this is on my geforce 2 MX and it works. before that I have the same problem as u becox i was running direct 3D.

you can also type " cl_showfps 1" into console to show just frames per second. you can also add this to your config. file in
counterstrike to have it set automatically every time. :D
also in t.f.c. there is somewhere to choose old or new player models, try the older ones.

you need a 3d card m8 AND well more RAM. try 256 @ least, but even double what you have will make a difference...

if money is hard to get try little things like defragging your hard drive and also changing your swap file to permanent......

1 What makes you sure it's the vid card?
2 What info did the net_graph give you?
6 Your Ram seems a bit weak for gaming [IMO]

i'm not exactly sure if it's my video card, but when the lag starts to happen my ping rises up dramatically and my fps lowers.

Since it may be your video card I suggest buying a new one. Right now there are many to choose from in many markets from budget gamers to CAD designers. I would recommend a Hercules 4500. It's based on the new Kryo II chipset which is the perfect card for budget gamers. It'll run you games smooth and does something most cards don't which is improve image quality. Check www.pricewatch.com I think you can pick up a Kyro II for 105 bucks now. Just make sure u have an AGP slot. And if ya don't know its brown and slightly smaller then the PCI slots which are white. Peace:2cool:

if i were to get a 3d card, would that make the freezing go away? i think the video card might be the problem, or the ram. i'm on a tight budget.

Yes, a video card is your answer, you can get a Kyro II for 105 bucks US, its a great card and CHEAP. Go pick one up. Oh, and like they said go get more ram, it's SUPER cheap right now. It will only dint you $20-$50 US.

My TNT 2 m64 16MB overclocked to 160 something outperforms the kyro II 64MB

And I was using a P2 350 while the kyro had a 900.

I say you get a TNT 2 ultra if your looking to save money or a Geforce 2mx 400 for a little better... dont get a kyro though..

found a few cards for good prices

TNT 2 Ultra (fast card) - 71$ (includes shipping) from http://www.shentech.com/

-

Vodoo 4 4500 32MB (lil faster than that TNT2) 62$ includes shipping - http://www.consumerdepot.com/pricewatch

-

Geforce 2 MX 400 32MB (probably a lil faster than a VooDoo 4) 75$ - http://www.shentech.com/

I would take any one of those and if you have even a 550 cpu you wont be disappointed.

My personal choice there would be the voodoo 4 because it allows you to keep your current card assuming it is agp or get an agp card and have dual monitors.

your choice though
