winrar is better. compresses much more ( MUCH more )
And it is also free.

Winzip is more popular because the shareware version of it NEVER expires. However, WinRAR & WinACE both have better compression ratio than Winzip.
But WinRAR and WinACE are both shareware and they expire.
So that's why most people prefer WinZIP, cuz it's pratically free.

Well, out of Winzip, Winrar, & Winace; Winrar and winace compression comes pretty close to each other.

To make a .cab file.....hmmmm I don't remember if winace does that. I'm pretty sure Winrar doesn't do that. Cab files doesn't have very good compression though, but if you want, you can make them with PowerArchiver at www.powerarchiver.com

It is also shareware, it was free, but as most free things, it turned into shareware.

He's right ya know :p Give that man a cookie. And let's not forget Aladdin Expander (http://www.aladdinsys.com/expander/) for decompression. It opens .zip files. Just drag and drop. Best of all, it's freeware

WinACE is by far the best compression utility on the face of the earth. Get it, and use it for compression/un-compression needs. It handles every format of compression I have ever run across.

Trust me, it rules compression!

a key generator is VERY easy to find for WinACE. But, after you use it you will likely enjoy it and gladly PAY for it!
