View Full Version : Changing NIC speed
I Don't know wether this can be done, but I've been assured it can.
This is the issue:
How can a NIC be forced to transmit at 10MB, I've been told you can do that from Network Properties (in Network Neighbourhood)
I'd appreciate your help
Thanks

Usually in the drivers for the NIC itself, accessed either through an entry in your start/programs menu (like the 3COM NIC Doctor), perhaps by double clicking a little icon it loads in your systray (like Intel Etherpro's usually do), or by bringing up the properties of your NIC in Network Components, usually under the advanced tab, media type.
Hi, again:
Thanks for your answer. But looking for anything useful in NETWORK componets, under my NIC advanced tab, I can't find none.
I own a Realtek NIC
Thanks again

I don't know the Realteks well, haven't kept one in a machine long enough to play with it.
Only thing I can think of is to hit their website, and download the latest drivers. Hopefully you'll see a driver including a config utility. Sometimes you can download a bare mimimum driver, and also have the option of downloading a more computer driver package that includes diags and a utility.
Thanks again, I'll do it.

right click on network neighborhood, click properties. Double click your NIC (not TCP/IP or NetBeui) which is the little green icon. Go to advanced, then media type. You will find your speed settings there.

That's what I told him a couple of posts up, apparently his current drivers don't support that.

The only reason I posted that was because the fleet of laptops we use at our credit union have Realtek NIC cards....thats where the adjustment is. I have seen some called link speed, speed, etc....
Hola:
When I try and double click my NIC advanced properties y can see these:
802 1p Support
Adapter PCI Bus Number
Adapter PCI Slot Number
Down Poll Rate
Flow Control
Media Type
NDIS Driver Version
Rx Checksum Offload
Tx Checksum Offload
Any cue about speed here?

Yes!!! Media type is what you want. It defaluts to auto-sense, change that to full duplex 100tx.

That's where we were trying to steer you a couple of replies ago....click media type once to highlight it...over on the right you'll see "Value" with a dropdown menu....take a looksie at the dropdown menu.
Yes, I know, but, please don't say it. Thick as aplank I am.
I'll try and play with those settings.
Thanks a lot for being so patient.
