ive been hearing so mutch about local area networking lately.
i have no understanding on what it is~>
Ive heard that there are chatt programs out there for L.A.N.
Does anybody know of any
and could someone plaes explaine the whole local area networking thing tome PlEaSe
any help to this thread is appreciated

LAN stands for Local Area Network.
Said in different words you establish a computer network restricted to an specific area.
Lets say at home you have a computer with a very very nice colour printer (I won't ask where did you get it from), your elder brother has another computer (better than yours of course) and your mother has yet another one (to play bridge on line with her friends). Every now and then your brother deprives you from your printer (to print some dirty pictures he got), your mother wants to print some recipes..., and so on.
So you get fed up with this state of things and decide to link all the computer so everybody can share the printer (and you can have a peek at your brother dirty pics).
And so you build up a Local Area Network.
A LAN can be huge, from your home's LAN to big corporate LANs.

Use WInpopup, it comes stock with all versions of Windows and it has even been ported onto Linux.

You should be able to find it in your c:\windows directory if you have it installed.

LAN Local Area Network -> a network located in a single building or an ajacent building with nodes connected by cables. Typicall topologies are ethernet or token ring. Usual network architectures may consists of bus or star type configurations.
