well, ive never done a dual boot before so i have some questions on how i am going to go about doing this. windows xp rc1 is coming out monday so i should be able to download it. i want to dual boot windows xp and my current version of windows me. i have partition magic 6.0.

here is what i understand so far as to what i should do:
1. load windows xp.
2. windows xp will start up.
3. install the partition magic boot loader.
4. the boot loader will see both windows me and windows xp and give me a choice as to which operating system i want to use when i start my computer.
5. done

is this correct? im really just taking a wild guess here, i really have no clue whatsoever how to go about doing a dual boot so i would really appreaciate if someone with experience would give me detailed instructions

no no no.
Create a partition of at least 3 gigs. Choose NOT for OS. When you create it run Windows XP setup choose Install and not upgrade. Choose custom installation in setup. Then say you will choose a partition for Windows XP to get installed. When installing choose the drive for it and you're done. :)

evil, why would i choose not for an OS, i thought they need a primary partition..... otherwise it creates a secondary partition..

They make you use their dual-boot style, which is bad. Windows dual-boot is better. But if you want to use it, then ok. :)

ok so windows xp has its own bootloder and everything like that built in? i thought windows 2000 required that you had a primary partition ready for it no? if i dont "make it for an opperating system" will it still be the right type of partition? i didnt know, if so, i agree with u... hehe
