Blue Screen Error in WinMe during Restart?
I just performed a clean install of WinME on a friends Dell Dimension PIII450 originally loaded with Win98SE. I used FDISK to wipe out his partitions and create the new ones and then formatted each drive. I then simply ran setup from the CD and in about 40 minutes we were up and running with WinME. the only drivers that I had to install that WinME didn't were for the soundcard. Other than that, smooth as silk.
When we got to performing the updates I of course started with the critical updates first. We downloaded and installed with no problems but when we restarted the machine, we got a blue screen error. No message, just a line of text saying this:
error: 06: 03: xxxx: 0000370C
I'm not 100% on the exact syntax as I don't have the piece of paper that I wrote the error on in front of me but I am postive of the first 2 sets of numbers and the last set of numbers.
What is boggling is that scandisc finds nothing and we can reproduce this error without failure every time we restart the machine. If we choose shutdown, no problems whatsoever.
I have done everything I know to the OS to minimize anything that may be running in the background, and disabled system restore also. But the error continues every time I choose restart. We are then forced to power off the puter. Now that would make me believe that scandisc would come up as the system boots up because we shut down Windows improperly but it never does and scandisc never finds anything wrong no matter if it's in safe mode or not.
My brain is stewed from trying to figure this out. I also went to the MS knowledge base but it never would return any hits for the error message. So, I'm a t a loss here. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
