Hello, I've been looking for some DSL and cable providers on the web. Right now I'm running on a 56k modem, and it doesn't cut it for games like ww2online. I'm looking especially for DSL other than DirectTV and Earthlink, or a cable provider other than Roadrunner. PLEASE HELP!

Errr...what area you in? Cable you're usually stuck with only one choice, your cable TV company. DSL however, if it's available in your area, you have a wide choice of ISPs....and my advice is don't get DSL from your local phone company, go with a quality ISP.

Post where you live, perhaps someone who lives near you can help you with who they use and if they're happy.

Greetings,

Well first off DO NOT GET ROGERS@HOME, why do you ask? Well for lack of better would everything about "suck".

My first week with Roger@home I was on hold for about 2 hours per call just ot setup an email account and the email server cept on crashing so I couldn't ever check it so I just got a hotmail

If your in Canada I would get Bell Sympatico, but if you in the USA I would go for Vezion DSL

DSL runs thought your phone line but doesn't tie it up, they give adapters so u don't here internet sounds, the installion is free with sympatico any way, and I havent been put on hold once.

Good Luck with finding a new ISP

Go to www.dslreports.com and check there for any isp's. If you can't find any isp's you can get direcpc or starband.:( :(

well I would say between dsl and cable I would go with cable,I have had both Roadrunner and @home and they have both performed up to and beyond my expectations. In both quality and $value.and lastly, you may not really have a whole lot of choices,I live in one of the biggest internet markets anywhere(Los Angeles area) and the choices depending where exactly you live are pretty small.we have pac bell dsl at the office and it totally sucks compared to here at home, in speed and dependability.anyway,,those are some of my thoughts...Dan

I have had both DSL and @Home...
I chose to stay with cable because it was a more reliable service than my DSL provider(my dsl went down several times for more than a week each time.) @Homes support is better also.

Take a look here, I use Cyberzone, which Biznessonline owns. They own just about every major ISP in New England actually. Is your town listed in Cyberzone's coverage?

http://www.biznessonline.com/ournetwork/companies/

As for reliability, it's luck of the draw. What one person says living in one area doesn't hold true for someone else in another area. I've had aDSL from Cyberzone for almost a year....used their dial up for many many years. They had the fastest dial up around, so I kept with the when DSL became available.

The 2 big thunderstorms we had last week I kept on gaming right through them, while my buddies on cable went down for a bit.

I think I've been down a total of 3 times since I got it...and for a half hour at the most each time.

I live about 13,000 feet from the CO....so my performance isn't that great...tested 685 down/115 up on benchmark sites. I usually download from the 80 - 120 range from websites.

But I chose DSL for the gaming performance....pings....not download/upload. I'm usually in the top 5% of low pingers on various gaming servers.

I use @Home and I'm very pleased.

@home is awsome, great speeds, low pings, and look at my speeds

Text Block Size 9990 KB
Download Time 6310 ms
Receive Buffer 1836000 bytes
Transmission Speed 12666 Kb/s
:D

Go with @home
