Answer to question #1: to change the music that plays when the computer is booted into Windows, you could go to the start menu, click on settings, and then select control panel. there should be something similar to sounds and multimedia (in win2k), and there you will have all of the system sound options.
Answer to question #2: to change the refresh rate of the display, go back to the control panel and select display. then go over to the settings tab and click on the advanced button. then click on the monitor tab, and there you have the refresh rate option.

yes.
1. go to start-settings-control panel and select sounds. under sound events, find the windows section. each event with a sound associated to it has a yellow speaker next to it. scroll down to find the one that says start windows, that is the one you wish to change.
2. for monitor refresh rate: right click on desktop and select properties from the context menu. go to the settings tab and then click advanced in the lower right hand corner. from here, the tabs may vary depending on your video card, but you should have a monitor tab. on that tab should be a drop doen menu that allows you to change the rate (if available)
take note, some monitors lock the refresh rate to the resolution of the monitor, and you cannot change those.
o.k. - cool. thanks. i got the refresh rate thing squared away. but my other question was misunderstood i think. what i want to do is have my computer start playing a mp3 that is on my pc when it starts up. is this possible. seems as it would be but i can't figure it out. when i go to start> settings> control panel> sounds> windows start up> then click browse, "D drive", program files, napster, "my music" - nothing shows up, but thats where my 2000 mp3's are located. how can i set a song as the windows start-up music ? ? ?

I don't think it is possible for Windows to play an MP3 during startup. I think the only way to get the MP3 playing during startup is to convert that MP3 into a WAV file.
Turn your Mp3 into a wav then tell Windows to play it.

goto http://www.hotfiles.com or www.download.com (http://www.download.com) and search for MP3 to WAV, the search results will list plenty or different programs that will convert a mp3 to a wav file, warning though, the wav file is uncompressed audio, the mp3 is compressed, your file size will double or triple at the least depending on the bitrate of the origional mp3

i did it but it still dont work. i figure the problem is that once i converted the mp3 to wav the file became 65mb:eek: apparently this is far too large of a file for windows to load and play at start-up.
