I live in Shreveport, LA which is right down the road from you. You can try these, they're my ISPs DNS servers:

Primary:
ns1.shreve.net - 208.206.76.2

Secondary:
ns2.shreve.net - 208.206.76.3

Both of these are local (in Shreveport) and I don't think that they've gone down more than a couple times a year.

BTW- Who's your ISP?

do you know if you are using the headend dns servers or the rdc dns servers? i have found better success with the dns servers at the rdc as opposed to the headend ones. you can usually tell the rdc dns because the ip's end in 33 and 34. i have yet to see a headend dns follow the same ip convention. @home implemented moving the dns (and proxies) closer to the end user a few years ago, but i have never been impressed with the results. by the way, all of @home's dns servers, until you get to the few at the noc, are the proxy servers as well. you can try to use one of the noc servers, (ns1.home.net) but i have only found limited success with those as well. try obtaining your respective .33 and .34 dns servers (unless you are already using those). in that case, you should be able to get hold of the headend dns via a current ip lease. i hope that this helps.
