When I download something with my cablemodem, it starts fast but after a couple of seconds the speed is only decreasing...How can I fix that? And what's causing that?

its you speed burst. if you go above your caps at first your definemtly going to see a speed decrease

it is that way for all of us bud :( it is just a spike

if ya never have been there, check out lobo's help page in my sig...............good stuff there

also check out the RamDrive/RamDisk :D

I never get any speed spikes with DAP always stays stable at about 800k. I read somewhere the reason you get a speed burst at first is becuase as soon as the save window pops up the download begins

that is correct as soon as yuu click the link it starts to save it to a temp file once you choose a location to save to it starts to drop in speed

what is DAP?

Can someone help me improving my connection? This is my information:

TCP options string = 020405b4010303040101080a000000000000000001010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1448, which is less than MSS because of Timestamps, or other TCP/IP options used.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 578160
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 4 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 36135
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 23126.4 kbps (2890.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 9250.56 kbps (1156.32 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 243 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = ON
Note: Timestamps add 12 bytes to the TCP header of each packet, reducing the space available for useful data.

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

Thanks!

Rwin is WAAAY too high.

Use 64240, its what I use, and its steady.

I am confused, in your sig it says best advanced tweaks here, is 64240 in any of these as a RWIN, and if CPU size does not matter, why are there patches for different size CPU's:confused: :confused:

ok, I have changed my settings with the Adjuster, here:

TCP options string = 020405b40103030301010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 524176
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 3 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 65522
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 20967.04 kbps (2620.88 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 8386.816 kbps (1048.352 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 243 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

Is there anything what I can do to improve my connection? I am also a bit confused about what my RWIN size should be...

Try 64240, 513920 or 522680 or the one you have in, see which one you like the best, see help page below in sig, 2nd page at bottom on how to do speed test sir and choose RWIN that is fastest:)

subzero is exactly right. i researched this b4 and as soon as you click "save" the d/l starts so after you pick where you want the d/l to go, your system has to catch-up with the transfer.

can you do more than changing a couple of values and installing some patches to increase the speed of your connection?

It's seems that this forum is quite repetitive and the same things are all over again...I hope tweaking your connection is more than that...
