Normally 2 or 3 but every once in a while I get 4 to 5.

I am on dial-up though, but it is connected most of the time.

Absolutely, totally normal. I used to get all that crap before I had a router. Now, the router controls all that and tosses the requests into the dumper before ZA sees them. :)

It depends on who's having the sale! Lately it's been price wars between NetGear and Linksys. They are running, with rebates and stuff, about $79US. Try buy.com, or best.com or compusa.com, or one of those low price search engines like mysimon.com or pricegrabber.com, for example.

Retail price is about $149US.

Get used to it. You'll see alot more. I never keep track of who is scanning me anymore. I don't even save the logs from my scanner anymore. I watched and logged when I was using ZA without a router, but then it got pointless. There's nothing you can do anyway, and the chances of someone having your puter when it's closed/stealthed is pretty nil any way.

The best practice is use a decent firewall (there are several), virus checker and trojan checker. Run that software frequently, be careful what you download off the Net and stay tuned to the lasted security news in this forum.

Port scanning is the first attempt at finding open ports to crawl through to get inside your puter. If you are on dsl or cable like me you will get alot more port scanning attempts because you are more likely candidate of becoming a zombie computer for some cracker's army. You can find a great explaination of this at www.grc.com. When I am online I receive 10-12 alerts an hour. I am strongly considering a hardware router to deflect alot of these occurances.

I usually get a whole lotta blocks on my zonealarm when i'm either on a downloading program(napster, Morpheus) or when i'm playing games online. Otherwise, i probably get about 1-2 blocks a day.
