just installed ADSL under win2k. Tried Nort Firewall and guess what. Running Alcatel USB modem type thing. what works as firewall?

Hello chs1, Welcome to SpeedGuide! I use Zone Alarm Pro. There is a free version that you can get it here (http://www.zonelabs.com/zap26_za_grid.html)
Tiny has a good firewall, but you need to know rulesets. If you are new to puters, I would recommend Zone Alarm... ;)

Before you down load Zone Alarm, be sure to uninstall Norton: go to "START"> "Settings"> "Control Panel"> "add/remove programs", then locate "Nortons Firewall" in the window, click "uninstall". You may need to reboot.
Then go to "START"> "Find"> "files and folders", type in Nortons, and any other names that are associated with them (one name at the time ;) ), then delete any Norton that it finds. Let us know if you have any problems... :eek:



What if it's for Norton Anti-Virus? Should he get rid of that too? Or just the fw related files?

So Ken, what would you recomend instead of Norton?
I have a new 2000 box ready to put online and it needs some good protection virus and firewall wise... I've used ZA before and it was pretty good but it locked up the 2000 so I couldn't surf if i left it sitting too long. tia
