I guess someone had had to try it. i have 2 ramdrives up & running and net is faster than ever.
The 1st ramdrive i made, i put temp files on it and never could figure out how to get tcp/ip on there - i could tell a difference in web speed.
Then i found a link that told about the tcp/ip stuff but during trying to do it - i created another ramdrive <MS>and lost my original one. this one tcp/ip files on it. i tried to put temp files on the new one but it would not work.
Yesterday, i followed a link in norm's sig to try a different type of ramdrive. before i started, i deleted the ramdrive i had, to be able to start from scratch. everything went well, created new
drive got temp files on it but tcp/ip would not work on it.
So i figured i would try it. i created another ramdrive By the method i used on the 2nd one <MS> and put tcp/ip on it.
As of now, 12 hrs. later, they are both running fine and net is VERY fast. no adverse effects so far.
E = MS Ramdrive <695kb> tcp/ip files only
X = Norm Ramdrive <50mb> temp int exp files / temp DAP files

another thought - wouldn't it actually be better having tcp/ip on one drive and temp files on another. if the one with temp files gets full, it won't effect tcp/ip files, right ?

If I had enough RAM to spare I would do that too! Guess how much RAM my computer comes with now from my manufacturer... 256MB RAM! Those bastards... 1GHz, P3... they make me mad.. I'm going to make a call to them and ask them what the f*ck is up with that... The PC they're selling now is only $100 more! Grr... I will try everything I can to get that system. Later

EA, just add more RAM to the bad boy :)

SVO, do you copy your temp files from the ramdisk to your hard drive before shut-down, then copy them back at bootup? Or just start over each time?

i lose them and start over every time but i don't reboot my pc but about once a week so it's no big deal. after rebooting, i open my "favorites" and go all the way down the list opening each page <recreating temp files> then as i go back to them they open twice as fast until i have to restart again.
