Welcome!

Spyware is software that sends information about activities on your machine/network to a third party (and this part is key) without your permission. MP3 players may send information back to the author about musical preferences -- could be anything. Sometimes harmless, always intrusive.

You probably heard that bearshare sends information back to some central server or something (which it may) without your knowledge or permission.

Have fun

Spyware is a little program in a dowmload or program that allows you to be tracked on the net by someone else. Also it may come in the way of cookies that you get by logging onto any site.

It's also coming to your motherboard soon. Check out http://home.phoenixnet.com/about/index.html

There's also a long thread at www.grc.com about this in the spyware forum. -matt

So true. Fortunately, there's a proggie that will block this action from occuring. It works by "remembering" your original files, directories, settings, folders, etc., on installation. So any future attempts to change anything on your PC will be blocked. There is also an antivirus bundled with it. The best part is it's free. No more worrying about deleting a program and ripping out your Winsocks along with it :)
You can get it here (http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/stories/info/0%2C%2C0010LZ%2C.html).
