k, I Got this in my e-mail just now:

>Dear everyone: Sorry about this, but it seems that there is a nasty virus
>going around, but you can fix it if you act fast. Please act URGENTLY. The
>virus could be in your computer files now, dormant but will become active
>on June 1. Please follow directions below to check if you have it and to
>remove it now. I found it and removed it today.

>email. I looked for it and to my surprise I found it on mine. Please
>follow the directions and remove it from yours NOW!!!!!
>
>I do not know how long it has been on my computer, but no Virus software
>can detect it. It will become active on 1 June 2001. It might be too late
>by then. It wipes out all files and folders on the hard drive. This virus
>travels thru E-mail and migrates to the 'C:\windows\command' folder. To
>find it and get rid of it off of your computer, do the following.
>
>Go to the "START" button.
>
>Go to "FIND" or "SEARCH"
>
>Go to "FILES & FOLDERS"
>
>Make sure the find box is searching the "C:" drive.
>
>Type in; SULFNBK.EXE
>
>Begin search.
>
>If it finds it, highlight it.
>
>Go to 'File' and delete it.
>
>Close the find Dialog box
>
>Open the Recycle Bin
>
>Find the file and delete it from the Recycle bin
>
>You should be safe.
>
>The bad part is: You need to contact everyone you have sent ANY E-mail to in the past few months. Many major companies have found this virus on their computers. Please help your friends !!!!!!!!
>
>
>
>Do not rely on your anti-virus software. McAfee and Norton cannot detect it because it does not become a virus until June 1st.
>
>Whatever you do, do not open the file!!!

It's a Hoax.... but apparently it's been confined to latin america... here's info from a latin american site (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=es&u=http://members.es.tripod.de/virusattack/hoaxes/sulfnbk.htm&prev=/search%3Fq%3DSULFNBK.EXE%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26safe%3Doff) (google translated)

My girlfriend got that email 2 days ago from her friends. She asked me to check it out. I would have been pissed if she deleted it. Although it wouldn't have mattered. I would have just had to use GoBack to revert the drive to before she deleted it.

Hey, Tech TV. just had a segment on this hoax. It is a command file that windows uses to expand older dos commands so that the newer version of dos can read them, or at least that is what I think they said(dozing off at the time). Anyways, it is a legit file. They also gave a tutorial on extracting the file from the 98 disc(or maybe I dreamed the whole thing).

Well, I'm ashamed to admit to this, but I sent mine to Symantec for evaluation, before reading the darn hoax page! I feel like a fool, but a safe fool. You can restore it from System File Checker if you have your CAB'S on your hard drive, if not you'll have to restore off the CD. :rotfl:
