Okay, I have written a few posts here in the past day. I just called my cable provider and bitched about my now <100kilobit/sec upload speeds (when it used to be ~800-1000kb/s) and was asking them what has gone on. I then proceeded to ask about when (yesterday) the tech person had me reset my cable modem if that would have anything to do with my now new, ****ty speeds, he said that what it did was updated the firmware software for my cable modem. I then asked him what the cap is in my area and he said 128kb/s. I then asked him how long it's been in effect he said that it's been that way for ~5 weeks. So here's my question:
What is this firmware thing? If there's an update, is there anyway at all that settings with my modem can be adjusted or perhaps an older firmware version could be installed? I have a tech coming out here tomorrow and that 128kb cap thing pisses me off horribly and I know that a couple of days ago I was getting >800! I just want to be able to get as fast as possible and I don't care how tedious the process is, I'll do it to get improved upload (talking about QUITE noticeable differences). Thank you in advance for any positive response.. and I guess the informative, yet negative ones as well :D
