Hi everyone! I am really in need of some help! I will give you my specs to start off.
@home Cable internet
download speed: 2600 and upload is 100
Compaq Presario
Pentium II 450
192 mb of ram
GeForce 2 gts 32 mb video card
Ok, here is my problem! I play Nascar Racing 4 Online alot. When i play there is always alot of lag. I dont know if it is packet loss, ping, or what. There are people playing on the same servers as me with 56k modems, cable and dsl that are alot slower than my connection. They are having no problem what so ever. I cant understand it. I have visited dslreports.com and tried there stuff and no luck. I have a rpogram called Dr. Tcp, which allows you to change your Max Mtu's and Rwin. I have tried several configurations. No luck..hehe I just found this site and it looks really good here. Can you guys please help me? Thanks! :)

I have no answers. Wanted to let you know. Your not alone.
@home really pisses me off!
I have noticed alot of post's with the same two words in them...
LAG & @HOME
Maybe you should get a different ISP or service
(not sarcastic)

If I could, I would. I have alot of packet loss on my online games. It's to the point that I don't want to play. Nobody seems to have any answers. Don't tell me about the tweaks. I've done everything I can do on my end. It's not my computer.:cry:
What game(s) are the worst?
Alot of games allow you to set the data rate... and if its defaulted for a 56k modem your not taking advantage of your cable.

Thanks for the reply ping. I know about setting netspeed, tick rate, etc..... It's not the pc or the software. I need answers that go beyond my end. It's the service! I just talked to a guy i work with. He is having the same problem. He lives close to me, but not close enough to be the same node. I wish I could talk to a tech that knows what he is talking about. Talking to @home customer service is like talking to a brick wall. I give up! I wish I could get DSL.:D

Sorry. The answer to your question is, Unreal Tournament. I love that game! It's every game I play.:eek:
If you and your friends using the same ISP are getting lag I would consider dropping there service and gettig a sattelite connection (not that much more)
or personally I would go to a main office of theres and bitch and moan until i got one hell of a refund or better service. :D

Check @home's service bulletins and see if they are doing any sort of work in your area. I noticed significant drops during those times when they took servers and what not offline. As was mentioned check to see if the game has a setting for your conenction speed and set it accordingly. As for checking packetloss... screenjumps are usually a side effect of packet loss. If you suddenly jump five feet from where you were in the game, you probably got some bad packets or lost some on the way.
As is known, cable modems are shared with everyone, my connection has done some serious drops during weekend times and I know it's not because @home sucks (though they do need more then what they are expanding to now).
The best thing you can do is communicate with your ISP and see if they know of anything that could be affecting it locally ( I don't mean the BS like it being your computer).
