Is it normal for the incoming bytes graphs to look like a MOUNTAIN RANGE??? up-down-up-down-up etc.....Big drops and rises....Is that normal?? any tweaks for that??

yea that is normal to a point i say it does it to me too but mine usaly are more smaller bumbs and stuff more steady i should say

but what isp do u have and that may help other ppl awnser you questions

and have you done any speed tweaks yet cuz that may help too

thanks for posting, I have bellsouth adsl, and Ive tried every patch known, I think...I still try about 5 new rwins a day, but my speed from moment 1 has been about 600-700 kbs or 70-80 kBs...It's sad really..I'm only 7700 feet from the co which should mean top speeds but I have to call them..THEM I hate that too...dealing with retards at bellsouth...the patches here gave me initial burst speed #s but it always settles back to same speed..Tonight I put in system ini, dos, and other cablenut tweeks without even reading what they did!!! LOL I try a new patch or tweak every day... tonight I disabled ALL programs (adsubtract, sygate etc) then defragged, then went to happypuppy and tried downloading demo...result? same speed....lol...I tried aol download same speed...ALL the reg speed tests at testmyspeed.com.....I will say that the 522krwin helped a little but packetloss was up there...I've done stuff Dannjr, lobo, cablenut, et al said..(all cool stuff)..same speed..only suggestion I aint heard was the smith and wesson tweak...but I am still trying every day..I feel like an inmate writing this, but I should be happy my speed is 12 times faster than 56k...I have 900mgtbird and 384sdram 20gigmaxtor...my fav rwins for no real reason, are 522k, 481800 373760 204400 33750 and 17520...I have used sev rwin formulas...i have pinged and tracerted....next prob step will be packet sniffer once I grasp it..like a true redheaded stepchild I keep coming back every night looking for new info...the advanced members here are the friendliest to newbies lol... :)
heres latest settings(the 1496 put end to packet loss)

Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows 98)

TCP options string = 020405b001010402

MTU = 1496
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1456
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1456, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 32032
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 32032
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
512512 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256256 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128128 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64064 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1281.28 kbps (160.16 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 512.512 kbps (64.064 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 51 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

here's a new rwin and dslsite result
Your Tweakable Settings:
Receive Window (RWIN): 64064
Window Scaling: off
Path MTU Discovery: ON
RFC1323 Window Scaling: OFF
RFC1323 Time Stamping: OFF
Selective Acks: ON
MSS requested: 1456
TTL: unknown
TTL remaining: 53

Example 146000 byte download
Actual data bytes sent: 146000
Actual data packets: 101
Max size packet sent: 1496
Max size packet recd: 1496
Retransmitted data packets: 0
sacks you sent: 0
pushed data pkts: 5
data transmit time: 0.818 secs
our max idletime: 119.1 ms
transfer rate: 94011 bytes/sec
transfer rate: 752 kbits/sec
This is not a speed test!
transfer efficiency: 100%

Good data stream (no rexmits)

Don't forget scandisk, very important and if your OS is 98/SE, see help, system file checker, should be run once a week to make sure you have all your files, and a RWIN to high or high without enough RAM will slow you down, everyone goes for the bigest number but that is not the best thing to do :)

thanks lobo... I do the "light" scandisk almost everyday..I dont think I ever did the "thorough-check physical surface" scan though... :)
