Something is strange with the Default Receive window. Here, your TCP/IP analyzer says my default receive window is at 49152, but in my registry it says 256960. I've ran the WinME speed patch. I'm not happy with the speeds I've been getting. Can anyone help?
TCP options string = 020405b401010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 49152
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 49152
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1966.08 kbps (245.76 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 786.432 kbps (98.304 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = OFF
Time to live left = 49 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000
AMD Athlon 1.2ghz
128mb DDRRam
WinME
Need to know anything else?

Try installing the speedguide patch here (http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/cable_patches.shtml) for u'r OS then you have to right-click on the .inf file and go to Install. Then REBOOT.
When that's done retest and repost.

In the last post I wrote that I've already ran the patch. I don't know what to do from here.

also go here for more info on backing up u'r registry and how to tweak it

The TCP/IP Analyser here is correct, just because it is in u'r registry, doesn't mean that is what it actually is. Since u'r MTU Discovery is OFF and u'r RWIN Scaling is at 0 bits, I'm guessing u haven't correctly installed the patch.

I've correctly installed it as you said when I downloaded it about a week ago. I right-click, see the install and click on it. I've searched for the 49152 value in my registry, but it doesn't find it.

in your registry, make sure that Tcp1323Opts is set to 1 and PMTUDiscovery is set to 1

and make sure u reboot after u make the changes

Yes, both of those values are at 1 in the registry. I just rebooted before. I still see no changes in the TCP\IP analyzer. What could be wrong? Firewalls have anything to do with it? Thanks for helping.

are you running through a proxy server? Is the IP Address showing in the analyzer the correct one?

Yes, the IP address is the correct one. I believe I am running through a proxy server, and have my own personal firewall installed.

the firewall shouldn't affect it, but the proxy server will...are you on @home and using their proxy server?
How to remove @home proxy server
Posted by Cablenut:
Proxy servers are generally SLOWER for your web browsing. This is because it caches everthing to a remote server that is overloaded and just adds more hops in your path. They are intended to let the cable company watch where you go!
To disable proxy server of @homes, go to start, run,
type: regsvr32 -u ahiehelp.dll (Space between 2 and -) This will disable proxy for good. Go to Control Panel, internet options, connection tab at top, LAN settings at bottom, click. Uncheck Automatic Detection and uncheck use proxy server, your done.
Nothing should be checked, reboot. :)

thanx lobo, I was looking for that :)

ok, I didn't do what the last post said, but I did do this...
I went under tools, internet options, LAN settings and saw that a box was checked saying to use an automatic configuration script. I disabled it and put it to automatically detect settings. Now This is what happened with the TCP\IP Analyzer.
TCP options string = 020405b40103030201010402
MTU = 1500

MSS = 1460

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

Yes, I am an @Home member. I know I can hike the default receive window up, but won't that give me a lot of retransmissions? Is there anything else I should do guys? I appreciate the help.

doh, just realized you mentioned what I did in your last post. Should I still go through the start menu and use the regsvr32 -u ahiehelp.dll?
I would or every time you reboot @home will auto check it :)

generally the proxy servers are slower than u'r actual connection anyways, so I would recommend doing what Lobo said and getting rid of the proxy server.

looks like I was reading too fast. Ok, I went through the LAN settings and unchecked the box I checked before. Now none are checked, and I see when I load my browser it doesn't say detecting proxy settings in the status bar. Once again, is there anything else I can do to speed up my connection besides hiking up the default receive window, and should I still go through the start menu and remove the dll from the registry?

ok, did the regsvr32 -u ahiehelp.dll and it succeeded. anything else? it's great to get replies hastily. thanks a lot.
I would not delete any dll's and you can try RWIN's of 522680, 524176 or 554800 :) :)

Hey no problem...I know how frustrating these things can be when u only leave like one little thing out that screws up everything. Glad it's working for ya now. :)
