Ok i just formatted my whole computer.. So now my computer is back to its default. What do you think are the best settings for my 500mhz ?
And i have a cable. Im also running Win98 SE.
here are my results.. I know my RWIN is to low but thats what i need your advice for.

TCP options string = 020405b401010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 8760
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 8760
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 350.4 kbps (43.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 140.16 kbps (17.52 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 117 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

Well here's the shopping list:
First bring up REGEDIT, type REGEDIT in your run box and hit OK.
Under Registry at the top of the box, click on that, now click on Export Registry File, a box will come up asking where you want to export it to, just put it in your C drive, then name it at the bottem of box, Registry.
At bottom click all. Click on save.
Now if you ever get in trouble or want the old regestry back, bring REGEDIT back up and click on Registry and click on import registry file, go to your C drive and click on registry and click open, reboot and your good to go.
Anytime you add a new program, backup again, any program, back it up to the same place as the last one, it will overwrite it. If you do not backup after each new program is instaled you will not have those setting's in regestry if you have to backup for some reason.
You really need to do this 2 times, 1-default registry to leave alone and 2 - the updated registry that you update after adding new programs. It's small won't take up much space, could save you from long night.

Do nothing else in this box as it is the heart of your computer, just what it says above and no more!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1. You probaly need to PRINT these instructions!!!!!!!!!!!! Please be carefull, Go to patch page this site off main page on left.
NOTE: If you are on PPPoE you have a patch and you also need Vtcp386 Fix if on Win 95/98/SE
If you are on PPPoE and running WIN2k you need to go to patch page.
2. Download the faster loading of webpages for your OS, 3. Download the speedpatch for your OS from patch page, becarefull, RIGHT click on were you unzip to patch to, up to install or merge, click, reboot. (Please read installation instructions for these patches on patch page). Please read how to install speed patch.
4. Download the back to default patch for your OS, do not install this patch, just download it in case you ever want to change patches. Please read instructions on patch and on how to install patch. This patch does not take your entire registry back to default, it just takes out what Speedguide patches put in.

5. Download Vtcp386 Fix patch if you are running WIN 95,98 or 98SE and install the correct one for your OS . Additionally, if your OS is Win 95, you will also need to download and install the vtcp386 for Win 95 and the Windows Socket Two patch.
6. Please come back to tweaking forum and take our tweak test/ TCP/IP
Analayzer. so I may see test results do this :
At top where it says edit click and select, Select all,
Then go back to same edit button at top, click and select copy.
Come back to Speedguide, same thread you were on, in post reply box, with cursor blinking at begining of box go to top, edit, click, select paste, click, this will put information in box. Thank you.
7. I do not recommend adding any other patches, all these tests change by the minute so don't be fooled an start adding patch after patch.
8. The best time to test for speed is early in the morning when no one (or not many) people are on the net.
9. Nothing should be running during any test, no virus scanners, firewalls, ICQ, AIM, (NOTHING)
and always clear (Delete, no this will not harm your system) your temp internet files before each test, not once during testing, after each test.
10. Do not add other speed patches on top of each other, always go back to default before trying another patch, I am aware of only one patch that will remove previous patch without having to return to default and that is Cablenuts.
11. In the future, here are some other sites you may wish to visit, go to www.testmyspeed.com. (http://www.testmyspeed.com.) Please bookmark that page as well as www.pcpitstop.com (http://www.pcpitstop.com) so you may return. All autofixs from pcpitstop are default settings. Also another good dowload site would be www.happypuppy.com (http://www.happypuppy.com) click on 10 demos and a large download file, do not download the whole file, just most of it.
12. You may in the future wish to go to www.AnalogX.com (http://www.AnalogX.com) and download Net Stat Live, run this while downloading a large file.
13. Please take your time and good luck. I would suggest at least 128 RAM and read up on all this, but be care full.
14. The most accurate way of testing speed is downloading large file as explained above from somewhere like www.happypuppy.com (http://www.happypuppy.com) (not all of it, just most of it). All other speed test sites will vary, www.AOL.com (http://www.AOL.com) is another fast server, you may download from this site also, remember to delete temp internet files before doing test. Try both sites as 1 may be having problems.
When refering to speed Kb is Kilobits, KB is Kilobytes Divide by 8 kilobits to get kilobytes.

RUN DEFRAG AT LEAST EVERY 2 DAYS
I understand Microsoft says run defrag every 2 weeks, but fragmented files slow you down, I have a program called Fix-it Utilities from www.ontrack.com (http://www.ontrack.com) that shows you whether you have fragmented files, I get fragmented files from just normal use so I defrag with this utility everyday, it takes about 30 seconds on 10 GIG hard drive, but if you wish to do it every 2 weeks thats up to you. You may put it in scheduled tasks to run, WIN 98/SE in taskbar, ME in control panel.

If you are running WIN 98 or SE, once a week run Sys file checker to make sure you have all your files, all you really need to worry about are Windows files and subfolders. Run, help for more information
DO NOT EXPECT TO BE FAST AT NIGHT(PEEK HOURS)

Check back for updates
How to remove @home proxy server
Posted by Cablenut:
Proxy servers are generally SLOWER for your web browsing. This is because it caches everthing to a remote server that is overloaded and just adds more hops in your path. They are intended to let the cable company watch where you go!

To disable proxy server of @homes, go to start, run,
type: regsvr32 -u ahiehelp.dll (Space between 2 and -) This will disable proxy for good. Go to Control Panel, internet options, connection tab at top, LAN settings at bottom, click. Uncheck Automatic Detection and uncheck use proxy server, your done.
Nothing should be checked, reboot.
